Solo Leveling began as a web novel on KakaoPage, where 243 web chapters were released from July 25, 2016, to July 28, 2017. They were published in print by D&C Media under its Papyrus imprint from November 4, 2016, to October 27, 2017. The series was published in English by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint from February 16, 2021, to July 18, 2023. It was also released in German by Altraverse from March 19, 2021, to March 20, 2023; and in Brazilian Portuguese by NewPOP Editora. The three releases are based on the 8-volume reissue from 2019.

Despite going through all hardships and pain, Sung Jin-woo manages to keep his cool in all situations and always try his hardest, becoming a beacon of hope to those who needed him, and despite all this he could still not fathom a well written character arc.
