About this title

Synopsis

At St. Lucia Academy, the body of a male teacher has been discovered in the pool. The girl who found him, Mizuho Kousaka, is a shy bullied student who seems relatively unaffected by her discovery. After all, this isn't the first time she has seen a corpse. In order to teach Mizuho to stand up for herself, a girl named Shion Sonozaki befriends her and the two become inseparable, as they both share traumatic pasts. But when another body is found, Mizuho comes under suspicion for murder. It's up to Shion to protect her new friend in Utsutsukowashi-hen, a side arc to the main Higurashi storyline that explains some of Shion's time at St. Lucia Academy. Age: 14 Birthday: July 10 Shion is Mion's identical twin sister, who currently resides in Okinomiya. In spite of their different personalities, she and Mion often switch places, and it can be difficult to distinguish between them. She was sent by the Sonozaki family to a private boarding school, but escaped and returned to live near her hometown, where she lives with Kasai. In spite of all this, she and Mion maintain a close relationship. In most of the arcs, she is at a different school from the other main characters, and therefore appears less frequently. She works as a waitress at the Angel-Mort restaurant and is the manager's assistant for the Hinamizawa Fighters little league team. She is often seen carrying a taser, and also wears yellow ribbon in her hair. She is also shown to be good with guns, along with Kasai, in Matsuribayashi-hen.

Kosaka Mizuho is a student at Saint Lucia Academy. She first appears in Utsutsukowashi-hen. One day, she sees a teacher in a swimming pool dead. A lot of the students in her class says that she is always alone and doesn't open up to anybody. Yukari, the class rep, always seems to bully her like in the first chapter she takes her notebook, only to have Sonozaki Shion steal it and give it back to Mizuho. She later develops a friendship with Shion. It is revealed in Chapter 3 of Utsutsukowashi-hen that she was about to be killed by her grandmother when she was very young, just like Shion. Mizuho is somewhat similar to Ange Ushiromiya from 'Umineko No Naku Koro Ni'. They both are loners at the St. Lucia Academy and are carrying mysterious notebooks around. They both are always bullied by their classmates, especially the class representatives, and told that their bad marks lower the average grade of the class.
