Naoe Kanno11 fan favoritesExternal profileKanno Naoe, nicknamed Nao (ナオ), is one of the main characters of Brave Witches. She is a witch of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, originating from Fuso, affiliated with the Fuso Imperial Navy, and the "partner" of Karibuchi Hikari. Background Born to strict parents, as a child Kanno was an obedient girl that had a taste for reading. She idolized literature and wrote down a diary of Tanka and poetry. She had an admiration for Gallian literature and specialized in the Gallian language at the naval academy. She does not drink alcohol. She was often picked on by others during the time of her training, including her instructors. Kanno also had the habit of, out of a vigorous fighting spirit, approaching the target until she reached the very limit. At times, this would result into a collision and the damaging of the Striker Unit, something that would earn her the nickname of "Destroyer" (デストロイヤー). On the other hand, because of this she would also come to specialize in tactics of closing in upon the opponent and then avoiding him by a paper-thin difference. Simultaneously with her appointment as a Pilot Officer, Kanno was assigned to the European Dispatch Fleet and put in the Operation Barbarossa. Assigned to the ground units, she provided inland support for the Petersburg Invasion Operation. Afterwards, she took up the duty of defending Petersburg. Also, although it happened only on paper, she would later be moved from European Dispatch Fleet to the 201st Flying Corps and then to the 343rd Flying Corps. In the middle of the fight in Europe, and with the intensification of the interchange of witches between nations, she would later become a member of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing when it was established. Personality Kanno is described, in one word, as Napoleonic; despite her small size, she is bold and daring in the air, brash and sometimes belligerent socially. It is an attitude she forces on herself because of the war with the Neuroi: when her Witch abilities woke up, she roused herself by repeating the prayer: "to fight a Neuroi, one should have a ferocious personality". This attitude doesn't lend itself well to teamwork or cooperation, but under Flight Lieutenant Pokryshkin this is dampened somewhat, perhaps because she resembles an elder sister of Kanno's childhood, whom she remembers fondly. Kanno embodies a daring combat-style, in which "if you run out of bullets use a blade, and if the blade breaks use a body blow". She also operates to good effect against big targets and her pet theory is that "the larger the enemy, the more worthwhile it is to defeat it". Her forte is to do a nose dive from just above the target and fire as the two pass by each other. Kanno had refused to accept Hikari as a member of the 502nd, because Kanno thought that Hikari was not like her original partner, Takami, anymore. But when Hikari showed her intelligence and will to fight to Kanno, she began to accept her, and they eventually become close friends later. (Source: World Witches Series Wiki)
Waltrud Krupinski10 fan favoritesExternal profileBirthday: November 11, 1926 Height: 175 cm Rank: Flying Officer (502nd), Flight Lieutenant (Karlsland) Striker: Bf 109 G-2, Bf 109 G-6 Weapon: MG-42 Familiar: Weimaraner Waltrud Kaprinski, nicknamed "Gräfin" (countess), is a witch originating in northern Karlsland, one of the most experienced in the Karlsland Air Force. She initially planned to join naval aviation, but ended up joining the Karlsland Air Force's JG 52 at the same time as Erica Hartmann (who served as her wingman) and Gertrud Barkhorn. In 1944, she was assigned to the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing in the Baltic. Her marksmanship and agility are remarkable, but she is reckless, having virtually no regard for her personal safety. As a result, she often damages her striker units and the trio of her, Katajainen, and Kanno are infamous for destroying strikers. She got her nickname from her slender, graceful appearance and cultured demeanor, but she is also known to be a hardcore drinker and womanizer. Her fighter pilot archetype is Walter Krupinski.
Gundula Rall6 fan favoritesExternal profileBirthday: March 10, 1926 Height: 169 cm Rank: Squadron Leader (1944) Striker: Bf 109 G-2, Bf 109 K-4 Weapon: MG42 Familiar: Gray wolf A veteran witch originating from Karlsland. Behind Barkhorn and Hartmann, she is Karlsland's (and humanity's) third greatest ace. She cut her teeth in the early years of the war in the Karlsland Air Force's JG 52, but a serious back injury left her recuperating in Africa for some time. When the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing was established she was assigned as its commanding officer, although she often leaves battlefield leadership to her second-in-command Aleksandra Pokryshkin. Rall is an adept and agile dogfighter, and the most skilled witch anywhere at deflection shooting (aiming ahead of a moving object on its flight path). Although in 1944 her physical and magical strength is not what it used to be, she makes up for it with her experience and sharpness. Confident and brash, she acts laid-back but is an effective leader. Her fighter pilot archetype is Günther Rall.
Edytha Rossmann6 fan favoritesExternal profileBirth date: January 11, 1925 Height: 151 cm Rank: Flight Sergeant Striker: Bf 109 G-2 Weapon: MG 42 Familiar: Red fox A witch of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, originating in Karlsland. She is a veteran of Karlsland Air Force's JG 52, having joined before its top aces, but has a fairly low kill count and is most renowned for her ability as a basic trainer—having trained Hartmann, humanity's strongest ace. Because of an illness she had as young child, her growth was stunted, and she ended up with a diminutive build. (However, it is rumored that in a pinch her stronger "true form" can surface.) Given her physical weakness, she cannot rely on strength or speed to defeat Neuroi. Instead, she developed a careful, methodical approach to finding an enemy's weak point, and when she does make a kill she often succeeds in a single decisive hit. She has a very cheerful personality and a strong sense of responsibility. Waltrud is a close friend of hers, but she is constantly keeping Waltrud's excesses and womanizing in check. Her fighter pilot archetype is Edmund Roßmann.
