About this title
Synopsis
Mushi-uta's story takes place in the near future. Ten years before the story's opening, strange insect-like creatures known as "Mushi" began appearing. The Mushi are able to consume peoples' dreams and thoughts in return for supernatural powers. Protagonist Daisuke "Kakkou" Kusuriya encounters a young girl named Shiika Anmoto. The two, in time, become quite close. However, unbeknownst to Kakkou, Shiika is an escapee from a secret prison known as GARDEN where those possessed by the Mushi, known as the Mushitsuki are held. GARDEN's military force, the Special Environmental Conservation Executive Office, dispatches its finest killer to track down Shiika. However, they are faced with resistance from the Mushibane resistance organization, led by the secretive "Ladybird." (Source: ANN)

Years ago, he shot Shiika's mushi, and promised her to make her dream come true. However, he does not seem to realize that Shiika was the girl he made the promise to. He has a sister named Chiharu, whose whereabouts are currently unknown. His mushi power manifests in powering a gun he carries. Shiika Anmoto17 fan favoritesExternal profileThought to be one of the most dangerous host. Her mushi, "Fuyuhotaru" (ふゆほたる, Fuyuhotaru?, lit. "Winter Firefly"), was killed by Daisuke years prior to the main story. After she regained her memories and emotions, she escaped GARDEN, and was found by Daisuke. She now lives in Rina's house and goes by the alias "Snow Fly" (スノウ・フライ, Sunō Furai?) within Mushibane. Her mushi power is unspecific where the mushi shines like a bright ball and is able to cause heavy impacts with high velocity tackles. Furthermore, it can create a snow storm that kills other mushi in it.

She has a crush on Daisuke, unaware of his true identity or his feelings for Shiika. According to Daisuke, she reminds him of his older sister. Her alias is "Lady" (レイディー, Reidī) and her mushi power is to summon her giant ladybug nicknamed "Nanahoshi" (means 7 stars). She is able to ride Nanahoshi to fly. Akatsuki Ogata1 fan favoritesExternal profileA good friend of Senri Haji - Keigo Haji's younger sister. His bug is a mayfly that can transfer heat into energy beams and uses it to attack targets. He can force his bug to transform to sub-mature state and greatly increase the amount, power of range of the heat beams. He used to be the south branch leader of "Mushibane" who infiltrate into SEPB as a combat squad member, but betrayed the leaderless Mushibane when they blindly decided to target Senri, and swore to protect Senri at all costs. He has a hostile attitude toward Daisuke because he believed that Daisuke is responsible for Rina's death. After the incident in Vol.2 of the novel, he joined the East Central SEPB under Touko's command, in order to kill Daisuke one day. Inuko comment on him that he is "merely an avenger, not worthy the name of a warrior." He is also the main protagonist for Vol.6 of the novel. After the incident, his attitude toward Daisuke was changed. No voice actors have been added to this character. Erii Horiuchi0 fan favoritesExternal profileErii is a young Mushitsuki who controls a pack of White Swallowtail butterflies to manipulate electrics. She can gain access to all equipment that requires electrics to operate, and can even have visions by sending currents through any medium that conducts electrics. These proven to be very powerful abilities in the urban environment. She can also summon her White Swallowtail butterfly to shoot electric beams to paralyze opponents. Her dream is to "know every secrets about the world." In Mushi-uta Bug Vol. 5, ch.18, She was discovered by Central SEPB, and Daisuke brought Arisu and Neiko to investigate. Arisu used her ability to "challenge" Daisuke and his company but Daisuke managed to break every obstacles. When she was discovered, her brain was about to burnout by uncontrollably accessing too much information, but she was too afraid to shut down her power. Daisuke did an unusual act, which was to spare her, and convinced her to shut down power with Arisu. Erii was later sent to Eastern Central SEPB under the supervisor of Inuko. She slowly learned how to control her power and became a high ranked member in the intelligence section of Central SEPB. Erii also made an appearance in the anime adaptation:
Harukiyo Sehateno0 fan favoritesExternal profileHe is the leader of "Harukiyo Clan" and a Mushitsuki who processed the power that rivals or even suppress that of Daisuke's. His bug is a giant Tiger Beetle that produces high temperature flames intense enough to burn or melt anything. He is allied with Miguruma Yaeko, the vice-presedent of Central SEPB branch. He is only interested in battling with strong opponents. Although usually described as savage, cruel and heartless, he actually cares a lot of his "friends". He seems to be targeting something hidden deep inside Central SEPB's underground facility. He is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in Drama CD adaptation. No voice actors have been added to this character.
