Synopsis

Forty-five years ago, people with superpowers suddenly started appearing in the city of Stern Bild as a result of an unknown mutation. These powerful individuals were given the name "NEXT." Though some used their powers for evil, others chose to rise up to protect the city and become heroes. However, in Stern Bild, heroes do more than just fight crime—they use their abilities to promote sponsors and compete against each other to rack up points on the hit show HERO TV! Falling behind in the rankings this season is veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, also known as "Wild Tiger." As a result of Tiger's incompetence, his sponsor is bought out by Apollon Media and he ends up having to combine forces with the cocky, amateur hero Barnaby "Bunny" Brooks Jr. Despite their potential to be a great crime-fighting duo, they could not be more different. While Tiger prefers to act on instinct and charge in, Bunny uses his wits to analyze the situation—causing them to often clash. Kaburagi, nicknamed Wild Tiger, is one of the series' main protagonists and a veteran hero whose lack of regard for collateral damage when fighting crime had earned him the nickname the "Crusher of Justice" for the wrong reasons by the public. He starts the series as one of the least popular heroes of Sternbild City, but he seems to care more about helping the people in the city than earning ratings, points, or fame. At the age of 10, he was present during an attempted bank robbery which was foiled by the veteran hero Mr. Legend. One of the criminals took Kotetsu hostage and the latter activated his NEXT powers out of stress and fear, sending his captor flying across the room. Kotetsu believed that anyone who touched him while his power was active would be hurt, but Mr. Legend convinced him otherwise and told him that his power was meant to save people. Partnered with and possessing the same power as Wild Tiger, he relies more on strategy than force. He is liked by many people as he is seen as cool and handsome. He is currently the top-notch hero, with the famous title, "King of Heroes." Barnaby is logical and won't rush off into a fight without a plan. Unlike his partner, he is only part in the hero business for the points he earned in his hero career. Barnaby used to act only for the fame and points, but that doesn't mean he is cold-hearted. His stoic and cool demeanor was eventually broken by Kotetsu. He actually does care about others, such as his nanny who bakes him a cake every year for his birthday. After Jake's arrest, Barnaby is shown more frequently with a smile and he seems to enjoy himself more often.
