According to Shuho Sato, who was an assistant to Nobuyuki Fukumoto at the time, Gin to Kin finished its serialization due to the serialization of Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji, which Fukumoto also authored. The series was adapted into seven direct-to-video films released from 1993 to 1997 and a TV series that aired from January 7, 2017, to March 25, 2017.
