About this title
Synopsis
The ultimate cross over manga featuring Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Getter Robo, Getter Robo G and Jeeg! These all-stars band together in order to defend Earth from cosmic evil. This manga is in the same vein as all those old Toei cross over movies, and the self-parody gets pretty strong later on. (Source: Dynamic Pro Scanlations)

Main characters
Ryouma Nagare504 fan favoritesExternal profileRyoma is the original leader of the Getter Team and the protagonist of many of the Getter Robo adaptions. In the original manga, he is portrayed as an extremely violent martial artist and the son of the "Dojo Destroyer" Ichigan Nagare. Ryoma is first discovered by Professor Saotome's assistants when he breaks into a karate tournament to take revenge on them for disgracing his father's name. Impressed, Saotome follows this up by sending three hitmen after him as a test of his ability. Ryoma kills all three men and in his weakened state, is kidnapped by Saotome and taken to his research center. There, he meets Saotome and his daughter and son, Michiru and Tatsuhito. Soon after, the research institute is attacked by dinosaurs, and many of the staff, including Tatsuhito are killed. Saotome tells Ryoma to pilot the incomplete Getter Robo in place of Tatsuhito against the attacking dinosaur empire. Ryoma succeeds at this and continues to serve on the Getter Team as its leader. In the TV adaptation, Ryoma's character is drastically different. He is now a football player and seems to be more easy-going.
Kouji Kabuto193 fan favoritesExternal profileMazinger Z Kouji Kabuto is the protagonist of the show, an average student with great skill in driving motorcycles. He lived with his brother Shiro and his grandfather Juuzo, after his parents were apparently killed in a lab accident caused by his grandfather. One day, Koji receives a call from his grandfather to meet him at his mountain cabin. Just as Kouji arrives however, the cabin explodes. Searching the remains, he uncovers a hidden doorway into the mountain and inside, he finds his dying grandfather who tells him with his dying wish to pilot "Mazinger Z" and stop a man named Dr. Hell. Kouji continues into the hidden lab and discovers the huge, humanoid robot Mazinger Z, and the hover pilder which is used to control it. Honoring his grandfather's last wish, he joins up with the Photon Power Labs and fights the forces of Dr. Hell with his Mazinger Z. Grendizer A supporting character, primarily acting as back up for Duke Fleed, the series protagonist. He enters the war against the Vegan Empire with Duke Fleed and his allies. He initially pilots the TFO, a small recon unit with minimal battle capacity. Later, he fights more directly alongside Duke with the Double Spazer, a jet-like machine with greater firepower that attaches itself to Grendizer and grants it flight capability ala the Scrander. His personality is reminiscent of how he is portrayed in the original Mazinger Z anime. He is stubborn, hot blooded, direct, and confrontational. However, he has matured a bit, as was evident in Great Mazinger. He is still likely to be the first to charge into battle, but is more open to reason now. Shin Mazinger The protagonist of the series. Kouji lives with his younger brother Shiro and his grandfather Juuzo in their manor in Atami. Though his grandfather caused the accident that apparently killed his parents, Kouji feels no ill-will towards him and in fact holds him in high regard, attacking anyone who dares insults his grandfather. During the Ashura Corps first attack on Atami, Juuzo sends out the hover pilder to Kouji and tells him to use it to quickly fly home. Just as he reaches the manor, it is utterly obliterated as Juuzo sends out his life's work from his underground lab, the super robot Mazinger Z. After docking the pilder with Mazinger's head, Juuzo tells Kouji that with Mazinger, he has the power to do anything he wants with the world—he could even become a god or the devil. As the ultimate penance for accidentally killing his parents, Juuzo will make his grandson superhuman. Having been granted this new-found power, Kouji decides that he will use it to fight the Kabuto family's long-time enemy—Dr. Hell—and his army of mechanical beasts.
Hayato Jin116 fan favoritesExternal profileThe second pilot of Getter Robo, Hayato is portrayed as a psychopathic yet highly intelligent delinquent. He is first seen as the leader of a student revolutionary group but is captured by the Saotome Research Institute after a fight with Ryoma and pulled into the Getter Robo storyline, initially as the pilot of Getter-2. He is the only character to have appeared in every Getter Robo series and has fulfilled many roles, from being a regular teenager to an adult colonel and an aging scientist. Like the other Getter Robo characters, his portrayal is drastically different in the 1970s TV series. While still a rebel and a loner, he is far less cold and cruel.
Duke Fleed77 fan favoritesExternal profileDuke is the crown prince and sole survivor of Planet Fleed, which was destroyed by the forces of King Vega. He has found a new home on planet earth and vowed to protect his new homeland and take revenge on King Vega and his minions. With the super robot Grendizer at his command, Duke Fleed fights back invasion after invasion in the 74 episodes of the Ufo Robot Grendizer series, with the help of former Mazinger Z pilot Kouji Kabuto, who serves as his sidekick. Duke Fleed's earth name is Daisuke Umon. He has been adopted by Professor Umon, head of the Space Science Lab and purports to be a normal human. He works as an employee of farmer Danbei Makiba. Only Professor Umon, Kouji Kabuto, Dankei's daughter Hikaru and her little brother Goro know of Duke Fleed's secret identity and nature as an alien. (Source: Wikipedia)
Musashi Tomoe33 fan favoritesExternal profileMusashi Tomoe is the third pilot. He is an extremely hot-blooded young man and controls the Getter machine "Bear" and Getter-3. Musashi is short and fat but also physically very strong as the leader of his prefecture's Judo team who has yet to be defeated in a match. Though he fails the physical and mental tests required to pilot Getter Robo, he makes up for it with hot-blooded spirit and stubbornness, becoming a valued member of the team. Musashi's goofy and clumsy personality forms much of the comic relief in the original series. His portrayal in the 1970s series is fairly close to the original manga, unlike many of the other characters.
Tetsuya Tsurugi17 fan favoritesExternal profileIn the original Great Mazinger, Tetsuya Tsurugi is an orphan raised by Dr. Kenzo Kabuto along with his friend Jun, he was trained to be the pilot of Great Mazinger.
Benkei Kuruma10 fan favoritesExternal profileThe third pilot in the second manga series, Benkei is recruited to help fight the Hyakki Empire. He pilots the third form of Getter Robo G, known as Getter Poseidon. An avid baseball fan, his pilot suit incorporates some baseball equipment such as an umpire's protective vest and mask.
Hiroshi Shiba6 fan favoritesExternal profileHiroshi Shiba is a car racer who is mortally wounded on a laboratory accident, but restored to life by his father, Professor Shiba, a talented scientist/archeologist. The Professor is investigating the relics of the ancient Yamatai Kingdom. He discovers a tiny bronze bell with sorcerous powers, and shortly afterwards he is murdered by the henchmen of Queen Himika, the ruler of the Yamatai, who wants to seize the ancient bell and its power. Hiroshi learns about his father's death, and his legacy: after the accident, Hiroshi was transformed by his father into a cyborg, the bronze bell hidden in his own chest. With his newound power, he is able to transform into the head of a giant robot, the Steel Jeeg, created by Prof. Shiba with the purpose of stopping the Yamatai invasion of modern Japan. The minions of Queen Himika have huge haniwa robots, called clay phantoms buried thousands of years under Japan's soil, and only Jeeg can destroy them and save the world. Therefore, Hiroshi must roughly try to live his double life as his career as a racer who takes care of his mother and sister and a hero who fight to save the world.
