About this title
Synopsis
Busou Renkin is the story of the teenager Kazuki Mutou, who dies trying to save a girl who was being attacked by an eerie monster. The next morning, however, Kazuki is left wondering whether it was all a dream. Lo and behold, the girl, the monster, and his death are all real! The girl, Tokiko Tsumura, was actually trying to slay the homunculus (a beast that can take the form of humans, but whose main source of food is people), but Kazuki got in her way. To revive Kazuki, Tokiko replaces his heart with a "kakugane," an alchemic device that allows him to summon a lance with which to fight the monsters. It turns out that Tokiko is a member of Renkin Kenshi (Alchemist Soldiers)—an organization sworn to protect the world from the diabolical creatures. Soon, Kazuki joins Tokiko in her quest to terminate the sinister being that creates and controls the homunculus. (Source: VIZ Media) Included one-shot: Volume 10: Embalming: Dead Body and Bride

Main characters
Tokiko Tsumura272 fan favoritesExternal profileA 17-year-old alchemy warrior that was assigned to take care of a homunculus problem in Kazuki's town. When Kazuki tried to save her from a homunculus (in actuality, she had the situation under control) she felt a sense of attachment to him and revived him with a kakugane, intending to make sure that he never gets killed again. Tokiko is very dedicated to her job, claiming that she hates all homunculi, and quit going to school in order to be more efficient. This hatred comes from the trauma she suffered as a little girl, when all the people in her school were killed or eaten by homunculi except her. As such, she is serious almost all the time, which leads to some awkward situations when with Kazuki and his friends. She is later assigned to be a student at Kazuki's school by Captain Bravo. Her quote when battling is "I'll rip your guts out." True to her words, the Valkyrie skirt has torn many enemies apart.
Kazuki Muto248 fan favoritesExternal profileAge: 16 Kazuki attends a private academy with his sister. After becoming involved in Tokiko Tsumura's fight and subsequently being killed and revived by a Kakugane, he is told to simply return to his ordinary life, but instead insists upon assisting Tokiko in her battles. Kazuki is very enthusiastic and friendly, and cares deeply for his friends and sister, Mahiro, tending to put himself in danger or difficulty in order to assist or protect others. Although he has an unusual way of showing it, he does have feelings for Tokiko Tsumura.
Koushaku Chouno184 fan favoritesExternal profileAlias: Papillon (パピヨン) Known relatives: Jirou (younger brother), Bakushaku (great great grandfather) Weapon: Busou Renkin named "Near Death Happiness" Koushaku Chouno is a major antagonist in the Busou Renkin series. He is introduced very early in the plot and is the main villain working against Kazuki Muto and Tokiko Tsumura up until the L.X.E. is introduced. He appears sinister and sickly, described as having "eyes like rotten river sewage." He aspires for eternal life, no matter which method he must use to attain it. This huge desire for immortality stems from his affliction by a mysterious disease that weakens his body drastically.
Mamoru Sakimori104 fan favoritesExternal profileBetter known as Captain Bravo in the series. He is Tokiko's commander, who dresses in an outfit that covers every inch of his body except for his eyes. Though Tokiko assumed this was to protect his identity, Bravo actually has no qualms with showing his real appearance when he acts as Kazuki's dorm supervisor. He claims that he doesn't use his real name because it's cooler that way, (That's what Kazuki thought the reason was, or more like he thinks it's cool) the truth being he abandoned the name after his first and last mission in the "Showusei Team," who only managed to save Tokiko. He acts as a father figure for Kazuki. During the Muto assassination arc, he tried to kill Kazuki up to a point where he threw him off a cliff, but he later defends Kazuki when Kazuki defeats him. He was critically injured by Hiwatari when he gave up his Silver Skin to cover up Kazuki and Tokiko from getting killed by Hiwatari's Blaze of Glory. Bravo remained conscious and controlled Silver Skin to prevent both Hiwatari and Kazuki from harming each other until Showusei appeared and stopped both raging warriors. True to his name, the captain has a tendency to say "Bravo" when applauding someone. He claims that he has 13 different attacks regardless of identity, such as "Meteor-Bravo Kick," and "Charming-Bravo Kiss." (Source: Wikipedia)
Victor Powered12 fan favoritesExternal profileVictor was once the leader of the Alchemy Warriors 100 years ago. Originally, Victor used a regular kakugane until he sacrificed himself to kill the leader of the homunculus of that era. In order to save him, his wife Alexandria transferred Black kakugane "I" into his heart. However, the power went berzerk and Victor killed everyone in the lab, as well as critically injuring Alexandria. Victor was then forced to flee his home, pursued by Alchemy Warriors and the Homunculus group lead by his own daughter, Victoria, who was also turned into a Homunculus against her own will. Victor managed to destroy a large portion of both forces before he fled to Japan, where he met Chōno Bakushaku, before he became Dr. Butterfly. The two men then struck a bargain; if Victor gave Dr. Butterfly his knowledge of Alchemy, Dr. Butterfly would heal Victor in return. After 100 years, the plan succeeded; Victor was healed and re-appeared in LXE's Ginsei High school attack. He managed to kill Kazuki once more, by crushing the Sunlight Heart with his Buso Renkin, Fatal Attraction, this damaged Kazuki's kakugane, and by doing so, Victor caused black kakugane "III" to awaken, he and Kazuki soon went into a battle, but both warriors soon ran out of energy and Victor was forced to retreat. Afterwards, he traveled around the world, abosrbing large amounts of energy from locations such as New York, Paris, and even the Arctics. Eventually, he was forced into the Pacific ocean, where he evolved from stage 2 to stage 3, and battled Sakaguchi Showusei's Buso Renkin, the Buster Baron, however, he used the corpses of ocean creatures, whose energy he had absorbed, and single-handedly destroyed Buster Baron with his own Buso Renkin, the war-axe, Fatal Attraction. He confronted Kazuki then, with Kazuki forcing White kakugane "II" into his body. However, White kakugane "II" was only able to revert him back from stage 3 to stage 2. As a last resort, Kazuki used the Sunlight Heart + and sent both of them to the Moon. (Source: Wikipedia)
