Synopsis

The life of Tsunayoshi "No-Good Tsuna" Sawada is a complete wreck. Terrible grades, horrible fitness, and a non-existent social life means he has no reason to attend school, especially after discovering that his crush, Kyouko Sasagawa, is already seeing someone. Unbeknownst to him however, the blood of Giotto, the great Vongola the First, runs through his veins. Enter home tutor Reborn, an infant who claims to be the world's greatest hitman. Under orders from Vongola the Ninth, Reborn has come to train Tsuna to become a worthy successor to the famous Vongola Famiglia name. Tsuna, however, refuses, and claims that he will never become a mafia boss. How will the world's greatest hitman react to such opposition? Will he force Tsuna to adhere? Or will he use this unwillingness to his advantage? This is a story of a reluctant successor as he takes on the responsibilities of becoming the underworld's next ruling mafia leader, with the help of his friends and a one-of-a-kind home tutor. The first 16 volumes of Katekyou Hitman Reborn! were published in English as Reborn! by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump Advanced imprint from October 3, 2006, to July 6, 2010, before release was discontinued. It was also published in Brazilian Portuguese by Panini Comics from February 2013 to February 2017.

Tsuna is set to become the tenth generation boss of the Vongola family. In school, Tsuna has been given the harsh nickname of "No Good Tsuna," as he is very clumsy, gets low marks in school and is somewhat of a pushover. Although he is the tenth generation Vongola boss, Tsuna is unwilling to take part in anything that has to do with the Mafia. He always denies the fact that he is a future Mafia boss and tries to avoid anyone involved with the Mafia. In the Future arc he states that he would rather destroy the Vongola family than accept its bloody history. Tsuna is often surprised and horrified (for a comedic effect) at Reborn's and other mafiosos' actions. Later, even though he still wants nothing to do with the Mafia, he is grateful for the friends he has made since meeting Reborn. He cares a lot for his new "family" and would put himself in the way of danger in order to protect them. There have been many parallels that link Tsuna with the first boss and founder of the Vongola family, Giotto. Both of their personalities are likely to be very similar as it has been shown that they have similar goals and ways of standards.

Like his subordinates, he too is a violent delinquent who uses his status to harass other students. However, he prefers to be alone and cares little for his subordinates. If he is amongst a crowd, he tends to play violent "games" with rules like "I'll kill anyone who wakes me up when I'm sleeping," and as mentioned, the loser often has to pay the price with his life. His catchphrase is "I'll bite you to death," which he says to everyone who he is ready to fight. In one comic scene, Ryohei misunderstands it and imagines Hibari swallowing Gola Moska's head. He also likes saying "wao," and when he fights weak opponents, he tends to taunt them by calling them a "herbivore." He likes eating Japanese food and hamburgers. Hibari may be a violent and cruel person at times, but he is very proud of his school, and is apparently the only person who likes their school's song, even using it as his ringtone. He has also been shown to have an affinity for birds; he adopts one of the avian followers of Kokuyo assassin Birds' and trained it to chirp his school's song. The bird (subsequently nicknamed "Hibird" due to its connection to Hibari) becomes attached to Hibari, so much so that it still remains with Hibari nine years and ten months into the future. His attitude and abilities have gained the attention of Reborn, who sees him as a potential candidate for Tsuna's family. However, Hibari likes nothing more than to kill those who are in his way or people that are crowding.

He idolizes Tsuna greatly and considers himself to be Tsuna's right-hand man. Due to a traumatic childhood experience, every time he sees the face of his older sister, Bianchi, he becomes sick, sometimes even falling unconscious. Oddly enough, he is immune to his sister when she happens to be wearing something that covers part of her face (i.e. glasses or goggles).

Takeshi is athletic built, tall, with dark, almost black hair and brown eyes. A smile is almost always present on his face, and as he is very kind to people, he soon became one of the Namimori High School's idols, being very loved by girls in the school. Although he sees almost everything as a game, Takeshi can be serious when the time is right. In the series, it's shown that he is willing to put his life on the line for friends and comrades, and Reborn noted that out of all people from Vongola Family, Yamamoto Takeshi probably has the most talent for being an assassin.

Portrayed as the series' first primary antagonist, Mukuro Rokudo is introduced as a 15-year-old Mafia criminal who is the leader of the Kokuyo Gang, which consists of heinous criminals whom have recently escaped from prison. However, later on in the series, he takes on a more supportive role for the series' main characters, becoming somewhat of an ally rather than an enemy, though he prefers to not consider himself as one of their allies. Despite often being shown with a playful smile, Mukuro is seemingly apathetic to the suffering of others. Appearing as the series' first antagonist, Mukuro is not averse to disposing of those who get in his way, and is not easily intimidated, usually speaking to others in a very direct and arrogant manner. He cares little for others, and simply considers people to be "toys" or "tools" he can sacrifice in order to get to what he wants. Mukuro is implied to have a strong dislike for the entire Mafia underground, due in part to the experimentations he suffered as a child at the hands of the Estraneo Mafia family. When Mukuro killed his captors, he offered Chikusa and Ken, who were also victims of experimentation, a chance to join him in his quest to destroy the world. However, not only does he want to take revenge on the Mafia by destroying it, he also wants to cleanse the world of its filth by invoking universal suffering through a world war.

Lambo dresses in a cow suit complete with a tail and has a huge afro with horns on the sides of his head which gives him the appearance of a bison. He has pretty good resistance against lightning. Although he claims to be the "great Lambo-san," Lambo is a total crybaby. Because of that he occasionally uses the Ten Year Bazooka to switch places with his 10-year older alternative. But, it is seen that even 10 years older Lambo is still a complete crybaby and unable to beat Reborn. Though if he uses the 10-year bazooka again, he becomes very powerful.

Due to her once anti-social life as Nagi, she never opens up to anyone except Mukuro, and always gets confused and shy when someone is kind to her since she had never imagined that her existence could be accepted by people. Because of her nature, some people can't be honest with her or think of her as pitiful. She also lacked confidence and used to tend on Mukuro for help, despite her own desire to become stronger. However, as the story progress, she becomes determined to become independent to help the people who are dear to her with her own power and started to interact with the others. Her main goal is to one day converse with Mukuro in Italian. Chrome is a talented illusionist and fighter, something that Mukuro has pointed out, stating that she has a quality to become independent soldier. Even though at first she's mostly assisted by Mukuro, her own illusions gradually improves to the point only an expert can see through it, as stated by Mammon. This further proven when she's able to create illusionary organs with her own power and supported Mukuro's illusions that even Mukuro commented to be stronger from Flan. The Japanese roumaji of her name, Kuroumu Dokuro, is an anagram of Mukuro Rokudo.

Sometime prior to current story time, when Kyoko and Ryohei still were in Primary School, he was lured by some High School students, and then beaten up, receiving the scar on his left temple in the process. Ryohei's main motto of life is "Extreme" which he applies to whatever he does. He was once shot with the Dying Will bullet by Reborn and it drew every atom of his power from body because he is always in Dying Will mode. It is mentioned that Ryohei was born with incredibly strong muscles, thus possessing greater strength than the average human being. But, he isn't able to use the full extent of his power, unless he has tremendous motivation, like being in a life or death situation, or fighting for Kyoko's safety.
