About this title

Synopsis

Set in a slightly futuristic world where Earth has been invaded and is at war with aliens from another dimension called the Nova, the story follows the adventures of a Japanese boy named Kazuya Aoi who enrolls for training at a special school for genetically modified girls called Pandoras who battle the aliens, and their male partners, called Limiters, who use a special power called "freezing" to limit their opponent's mobility. The protagonist makes the acquaintance of an unusual older girl named Satellizer el Bridget who appears to be the most powerful Pandora in her class, but has not yet chosen a male partner to be her Limiter, and in spite of the warnings of all his friends, he decides to be her Limiter.

Publication notes

Freezing has been published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment in 2-in-1 omnibuses since June 23, 2015. An artbook titled Reminiscence (レミニッセンス), which collects illustrations from 2006-2014, was released in Japan on March 3, 2015.

Curiously, she does not go berserk when touched by Kazuya and after some time denying his company she accepts him as her Limiter. Despite her reputation and ruthlessness during battle, she has a quiet and reserved nature. Her name is usually shortened to Satella or Stella. Formerly known as Satellizer Alongrutch, she was born from the head of the infamous el Bridget family who impregnated her mother Noelle Allouache. Her mother was very sickly and in order not to worsen their situation she was forced to endure the abuses of her half-brother, Louis, until her half-sister Violet found out and decided to move her away for her own safety. At her mother's deathbed, her mother apologized to her for the suffering she had endured and told her that she must never lose or give up and also to become stronger than anyone. Her memories become her driving force in life resulting in her severe determination and will. Despite her low synchronization rate with stigmas, she was implanted with six of Kazuha Aoi's stigmas before her enrollment into Genetics because of her family's influence.

His sister, Kazuha Aoi, sacrificed her life to defeat a powerful Nova who invaded Japan in the past and after empathizing with Satellizer, whom he believes resembles his sister, he decides to become her limiter. Despite being male, Kazuya can nurture stigmas in his body and due to his exceptionally high synchronization rate with those stigmas, he can use his freezing ability without having to perform the ceremony that would allow him to unify his senses with a specific Pandora, otherwise known as being "baptized". In addition, his freezing can completely immobilize anyone he uses it on and can also break the freezing abilities of multiple Limiters. This makes him a perfect partner for Satellizer since she refuses to be baptized with a Limiter, seeing it as some form of lewd act.
