Synopsis

Seishuu Handa is everything a high school boy could hope to be: handsome, smart, and a calligraphy genius. Though he is revered by the whole school, Handa is completely unaware of his popularity. Much to his best friend Takao Kawafuji's amusement, Handa is convinced that the admiration of his classmates is actually bullying. Unfortunately for him, every action he takes in order to avoid being "bullied" results in another student, be they model or delinquent, joining the ranks of the Handa worshippers. Handa-kun illustrates the hilarious high school days of the young calligrapher and his ever-growing fanbase, even though all he wants is a quiet life. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Age: 23 Birthday: April 15 A calligrapher who disgraced himself by punching a director of an art gallery who criticized his calligraphy style heavily as "boring," "rigid," "academic," and "bland." He then leaves for the Goto Islands in Nagasaki at the suggestion of his famous calligrapher father to focus more on his calligraphy as he waits out his "exile." Along the way, he finds value in interactions with other people, in particular a tomboyish little girl named Naru, and finds his inspiration and own personal style. At first, Naru calls him "Junon Boy," referring to a particular magazine that features street pictures of male idols, suggesting (incorrectly) that he's a city-dwelling pretty boy of the kind that don't really exist in real life. Later on, she calls him, "Sensei." Sei Handa appears again in another manga titled Handa-kun, a prequel of sorts featuring Handa during his high school years. In the prequel, he is a well-regarded school idol and prodigy calligrapher who holds the hilariously mistaken belief that no one likes him and that the distantly worshipful actions of his peers is in fact bullying. This is apparently the fault of his best friend of both series, Kawafuji, who told him a lie that he was "hated" as a joke, which Handa mistook for the truth, and his friend never actually tried to correct because he found it funny and amusing.

Kondou Yukio is a normal high-school student, who performs average in academics and sports, with few but good friends. During cooking class, he ends up in the same group as Handa and his "followers," who have scary rumors. Kondou ends up as part of the "handa-otaku," as he likes to refer it.

In the past, Tsutsui had similar proportions to a girl, for which he was constantly bullied by his classmates, hence he became a truant. After shutting himself indoors he came to realize he was "lacking power" and got a muscle band. Due to all the misunderstood rumors, some delinquents, that had come to take revenge on Akane, recognized Handa and fled, hence Akane Tsutsui became Handa's SP "Security Police/ Security Personnel".
