About this title
Synopsis
At the end of the Showa era, the Media Betterment Act was enacted, beginning a country-wide hunt for all media that were deemed offensive. Witnessing the senseless censorship, libraries stood up against this law; the Library Defense Force (LDF) became the only entity capable of fighting off the Media Betterment Committee (MBC). Tomboyish and avid reader Iku Kasahara is the newest member accepted into the Kanto branch of the LDF. Her love of reading has inspired her to join the force in more ways than one: she almost landed in trouble with the MBC five years prior when an unknown LDF agent came to her aid. Iku has since vowed to protect books just like that agent did, and—at just 22 years old—she has now become a promising talent among the new recruits. Although Iku has achieved her dream of joining the LDF, she clashes with her superior Atsushi Doujou, a straight-laced instructor who seems to be particularly hard on her. For that reason, Iku is surprised to find out Doujou, among others, recommends her to be part of the Library Task Forces (LTF). Now part of an exclusive team, Iku must show her value as a member of LTF while executing her duties diligently. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Main characters
Atsushi Doujou143 fan favoritesExternal profileFirst Lieutenant librarian. Captain of the special unit "Dojo Squad". Superior in combat and normal library office work. Has quite a short figure compared to men in his age (approx. 5'4"), but that never makes him weaker than the others. Dojo is a strict leader and has a straight character. He always pushes his subordinates (especially Iku) to their limit. His straight character makes himself a good prey of teasing by other officers. He is usually calm and composed, but not whenever it's concerning Iku. Despite his tendency to act mean with Iku, he deeply cares about her, even more than any of his subordinates. Multiple times, during the show, it is hinted that he has romantic feelings for her. As the story goes on, he's getting kinder towards Iku, showing great care, which results in Iku's feelings gradually changing. Also, he likes patting Iku. He always pats her whenever she's sad, or down, or simply just for praising her.
Iku Kasahara119 fan favoritesExternal profileIku Kasahara is the main character of the series. She is twenty-two-years-old and is initially ranked Librarian First Class, but is later promoted to Chief Librarian. She joined the Library Defense Force's Kantō Library Base in 2019 after being inspired by a high ranking Kantō Library Defense Force member who saved a book she wanted to buy that was targeted for censorship. She holds this unknown person in high regard, thinking of him as her "prince", and she wants to be an "ally of justice" as he was for her. As such, she has a strong sense of justice when it comes to freedom of expression and is willing to put her life on the line for the books she has sworn to protect. When she enters into recruit training, however, she finds it to be very challenging, made especially so by her drill instructor Atsushi Dojo who pushes her harder than most other recruits. In high school, she had been a member of the track and field team, so she has a lot of stamina and drive to continue with the Library Defense Force. When the story begins, Kasahara is a sub-par recruit who constantly makes fatal mistakes and is not as knowledgeable about the cause she is in the middle of compared to others around her, mostly due to her not paying attention in lectures on the base. Despite these apparent flaws, she is recruited into the base's Library Task Force, an elite group of soldiers who go through rigorous training in order to respond during difficult operations. While at first she starts out slow, she soon becomes capable of clerical tasks in regard to working in the base's library, though still finds it difficult to make a strong presence on Dojo, her superior officer. After quite some time of working under Dojo and receiving great care from him (which she didn't expect), her feelings began to soften and she began opening up to Dojo.
