Air Gear was first published in English by Del Rey Manga who released the first 17 volumes in the period from July 25, 2006 to August 31, 2010, with the latter three volumes released as a 3-in-1 omnibus. Kodansha Comic USA published the series starting with volume 18 from June 14, 2011 to June 26, 2018 and republished the first 17 volumes of the manga in 3-in-1 omnibuses from May 28, 2013 to February 23, 2016. It was also published in Spanish by Norma Editorial from November 2007 to September 2013 and in Italian by Panini Comics under the Planet Manga imprint from March 23, 2007 to March 16, 2013.

Age: 15 Team: Kogarasumaru Road: Wing Road Status: Sky King candidate After Known as Ikki (イッキ?) by his friends, and also known as Babyface, is a free spirited AT rider that has a natural affiliation for being in the sky. He is introduced to ATs by Noyamano family, whom he lives with due to his parents' deaths. He eventually forms Kogarasumaru, and takes on the Trophaeum. Ikki is often characterized as a crow due to a small crow, Kū, using his hair as a nest. Ikki is a very upbeat, zany person, who seemingly is as eccentric as just about everyone else in the universe of Air Gear. He delights in eating meat, a privilege he is often deprived of in the Noyamano household by his sisters. He is rash, impulsive, and determined to do everything his way, whether for good or bad. In battle he either comes off as his odinary crazy and unpredictable personality, or his more serious, cold and steely side, which other characters has described as a rare occurrence, and as an intimidating scene. Ikki is totally hooked onto Air Trekking. He treats his ATs with care to such a standard that even his sisters feel jealous of, and his mind is constantly on Air Trekking; for example, during the Kyoto trip he fails to notice Ringo's affection initially, deadset on figuring out a 'Windmill Theory' that another Storm Rider has revealed to him as the secret behind the Rumble King. Ikki is a self-proclaimed genius and very proud of himself, in particular his fighting abilities. In truth he works very hard behind the other's back, as is revealed when Kuu brings his friends to his secret training area, where the scars left over by his training could be seen in chapter 87. Though his attitude can be described as a lowlife, suitable for his gangster-like persona, and though he likes to go around doing insanely foolish things all the time, Ikki has a tendency to think beyond others' perceivable concept and at several intervals can spout deep philosophy that more often than not will impact others. One such incident was the Pomtemkin brothers' battle, where Ikki's plan caused an initial falling out among the Kogarasumaru, where in fact he had his own solution around that matter. Ikki, though easy to miss the obvious, can be very adept when it comes to spotting small details. In their first Parts War, he alone had noticed that Kazu's ATs were the most worn out among them, a mark of how much he practiced. He is noticed to be developing a new skill, as Kururu noticed that his AT was worn out. The day came for the Sleeping Forest and the Genesis to fight, Ringo went to the place where Ikki and his gang stayed and revealed her true feelings for Ikki while dressed as Croissant Mask. He was shocked and realizes that he is an idiot for not noticing Ringo's love. Ikki thinks deeply and even in their battle he can't concentrate and then he realizes that Ringo was always there for him. In recent chapters, it's revealed that the trick Ikki was developing was called "Null Wind". It combines the power of all the major riders of Kogarasumaru and creates a storm of wind around Ikki, that stops all wing road riders tricks. Team: Kogarasumaru Status: Fang King Road: Bloody Road Akito Wanijima and Agito Wanijima are two personalities that make up the Fang King of the Bloody Road. They are originally part of the Wind SWAT team, in which they are treated like a tool by their older brother, Kaito. Ikki eventually saves them, and they join Kogarasumaru. They switch who is in control by using an eye patch. Akito is innocent and non-violent. He becomes attracted to Ikki, much to Ikki's discontent, and often tries to kiss, bathe, and sleep next to or with Ikki. He states he was the original Fang King until he became disgusted with himself and became unable to use AT. Agito then appears and starts using ATs, while following his own violent and bloodthirsty nature. He tends to swear a lot and uses four hooks dangling from straps on his legs to battle and tear people apart. When equipped with the Fang Regalia, he releases a pressurized "Fang" through the instantaneous acceleration and braking of the A-T's wheel motors, vacuuming and compressing air into a piercing shock wave. As the manga develops, Agito grows to respect Ikki and his strength. In some scenes in the manga, Agito is shown to be very weak while sleeping, so much that the guys put him in some very humorous scenes because of his weakness. It is also learned that Akito had been acting as Agito's tuner up until now. However, he wasn't able to fully hear his own biorhythm, only allowing him to keep his other half's A-T and Regalia barely operational. Because roughly 76% of the Fang Regalia was not operational, Agito had difficulty with fully utilizing his "Fangs". It isn't until Yayoi tunes him that the Fang Regalia is fully operational and complete. Akito is very affectionate to Ikki as well as Agito to respect his way of doing things. In the manga, it is showed that Agito has some sort of affection towards Nakayama as he tells her to "protect" herself or not which means she should protect herself and not counting on him or others all the time. Another personality, Lind Wanijima (鰐島凜鱗人, Wanijima Rindo?), emerges during the battle with Orca. She claims to be the original personality and she is much stronger than the other two, utilizing the Fang Regalia on a different level. She is a "brain charger", or a person who has been "charged" with the ability of gravity children. Lind's eyes have crosses on them, similar to those of gravity children, but her eyes have two crosses, with one set at a 45 degree angle and overlayed over the other. She does not care for others. It is unknown if she has any feelings at all towards anyone, including Akito and Agito Wanijima, though she has displayed more human compassion towards the then-incapacitated Yayoi Nakayama. She kissed him in chapter 194, while battling Orca underwater, to give him her air so that he could continue battling. Team- Kogarasumaru Status- Flame King Road- Flame Road known as Kazu to his friends, is a childhood friend of Ikki who becomes influenced to take up AT and join Kogarasumaru. He is originally bullied by Ikki as a child, and he often feels like others are more important than himself, especially compared to Ikki's natural talent. In the manga, Kazu owns a dog named Chiwa. He takes up running at a later point, which eventually leads to him being an exceptionally fast AT rider. As he shows signs of following the Flame Road, Spitfire takes an interest in him and eventually proclaims Kazu to be the next Flame King. He is given the Flame Regalia before Spitfire's death, Kazu soon discovers this during his challenge to be the hero who saves the fallen from hell. Kazu soon realizes that he truly wants to fight against Ikki and they began their battle. Kazu fights an amazing battle against Ikki. Though it seems that Ikki had gained the upper hand, he left the fight a draw. Kazu was very satisfied with how he had become close to Ikki's level. It has been revealed that Kazu has adopted not only Spitfire's techniques, such as Afterburner, but also Aeon Clock's Time Manipulation, which he has been taught by the advanced training program left in Spitfire's ATs. Kazu has recently copied a trick called "Flame Lens" from his opponent. This allows him to create an illusion of himself and Agito and win them their fight. This trick is considered to be above special A-class and is a very powerful technique for a (tentative) king to use without regalia Kazu is probably unaware of Emily's feelings for him and maybe does not reciprocate them, but he does show special attention to her from time to time, like rescuing her necklace when a rival threw it into a river, holding her hand after the team was defeated by the White Wolves or hugging her after she retrieves the balloon in the match against Inorganic Net (former Sleeping Forest). He also normally represents a sort of morality when it comes to women, whereas Onigiri and Ikki are more lecherous. For example, when Onigiri caught up with Croissant Mask (Ringo in disguise) during their first parts war in order to look at her ass, Kazu was embarrassed while Ikki was envious. It is revealed that Kazu has an older sister and lives with her, as his parents are overseas and rarely around. =Tricks= Super Stride IV "Sonic Boom": AFTER BURNER: This Trick takes advantage of direct power injection to the A-T's wheel motor resulting in a significant increase of thrust and supersonic takeoff. TIME: Learned from Spitfire's VR program. Time restricts an individual's movement with precision kicks and palm thrusts targeting the vital nerve points on the chin, back of the head and bottom of the neck, effectively diminishing a person’s freedom of movement. Individuals experience impaired vision, haziness, and sensations of burning paralysis. Team- Sleeping Forest Status- Thorn Queen Road- Sonia Road Ringo looks like your everyday junior high school girl. However, she is actually the successor of the legendary Storm Riders team, Sleeping Forest . She is also the current Thorn King (Queen) of the eight 'Kings' in the AT world. Ringo is in love with Ikki but does not dare to tell him. She helps Kogarasumaru in times of trouble under the guise of Croissant Mask (Croissiant Kamen). Ringo is a King Class AT user. Ringo is determined to show Ikki the "fear" of flying through the air, because she doesn't want to see him suffer the same fate the last 'Wind King' did. To this end she was even willing to brutally attack him using her 'Thorn Regalia'. During the battle she seems to have total control of the fight as Ikki is completely out-classed. But Kururu Sumeragi saves Ikki with a mid-air installation of the Bagram prototype cores. Ikki then becomes more than a match for Ringo. The fight then seemingly ends in a draw with Ikki carrying Ringo back home. After that battle Ikki leaves the Noyamano residence, but not before Ringo finally reveals her feeling for Ikki and kisses him goodbye. Later in the Tower of Tropheum, Killik reveals the true purpose of Ringo as leader of Sleeping Forest. Due to the final battle for the Sky King takes place where not only the air is incredibly dense, and the atmosphere is giving off the feeling of crushing you, Ringo is completely immune to it. Thus making her the perfect warrior to protect the Sky Regalia. Ringo is often depicted to be a warrior in an armor, with a shield and blade, and a pair of wings made out of blades. At this point in her introduction, she is usually in the middle of a forest with dead bodies sprawled around her. Her introduction stays the same throughout the manga: "The Fruit of the Forbidden Forest Which Lures One into a Deep Slumber... Crazy Apple." (A play on her name since "Ringo" means Apple in Japanese.) Ringo (along with Mikan and Ume) are not biological sisters of Rika. It was revealed in Chapter 154 by Kilik. A year or so after the creation of the original Sleeping Forest, it was revealed by Kilik that three unknown "gravity children" are staying with Rika, implying that the research for Air Treck is still going on somewhere else. In chapter 174, Ringo is seen watching Kogarasumaru training for their B-Class match against White Wolf clan, then she sees Hako talking to a mysterious girl that was seen with the Sora brothers on chapter 163.

Kururu Sumeragi is the leader of the current Tool Toul To and Pledge Queen. She has very messy hair, and uses pins in attempt to keep it kempt. She always carries tools around in her clothing. She is Ikki's Tunner and wants to get to know him better personally and in order to tune him better. Although shy around Ikki at first, she becomes devoted to him after witnessing his anger over Simca's attack. She does not wear ATs, but as the leader of Tool Toul To, she is a true genius in repair, construction, and maintenance of ATs. In Ikki's battle with Ringo, Kururu identified the sound of Ikki's ATs, arrived at the battle in time to intercept Ikki as he was falling towards the river, and rebuilt his ruined ATs in midair in less than three seconds. She originally rebuilds the Wind Regalia for him, though it is stolen and given to Sora. During the Fight with White Wolf Clan, Kururu wants to show Ikki her power as a tuner by helping out the other team. Afterwards, Ikki asks her to create the new Storm Regalia for him, a request which she gladly accepts. It quickly becomes evident that Kururu has feelings for Ikki. During the talk with Kilik and betrayal of Sora, she ran to him and tried to confort him.Later on, she appeared along with Simca and Ringo (under the guise of Croissant Mask) after Kogarasumaru's special training. Agito teases them, saying, "You three came here with intentions of getting a kiss, but you're out of luck, right?" The three deny this accusation, but then reveal they had some similar intentions. During that time, her power struggle with Simca and Ringo over Ikki's affection is seen. - Road - Kururu is the current Pledge Queen of the Ring Road, as well as Ikki's tuner. Although she is not a Storm Rider, she is still considered Queen-level for her skills with tuning. Numerous characters on all sides of the war between Sleeping Forest and Genesis have remarked that she is Makigami Ine's successor. Like the other Kings and Queens, she has her own 'shadow', consisting of a singing woman draped in piano mechanisms. first apperance in chapter 109 - Regalia - As the Pledge Queen, Kururu is able to activate the Pledge Regalia, Axis. It takes the shape of a large cross (larger than Kururu herself) which splits into numerous, thinner crosses interconnected by a large amount of wires. By synchronizing their movements through singing (characterized as bird calls by onlookers), all tuners connected to Axis are able to access Kururu's immense tuning prowess, including Infinite Scale - Tricks - Infinite Scale - As the Pledge Queen, Kururu is able to access the world of "Infinite Scale". This enables her to repair, modify and/or tune any ATs in a matter of seconds. Other members of Toul Tool To have remarked that this level of repair work is actually painful to the eyes and hands, although Kururu has shown none of these side-effects.

Team: Kogarasumaru Former Team: Night King Known as Buccha to his friends and teammates, Issa Mihotoke (御仏一茶, Mihotoke Issa) is a level E AT user who uses his immense strength as his weapon. Before he became part of Kogarasumaru, he was the leader of the team Night King (夜王 Yaou) which was broken up after Buccha lost a Parts War with Ikki. Buccha is often characterized as a tank. He attends Higachu Junior High School. He appears to be obese, but his body is only ten percent fat. His size is actually caused by a large amount of blood pooling in his gut from overeating. He also has the ability to manipulate that blood and send it to his muscles, causing him to temporarily have a slimmer, cut figure and even cause his limbs to become longer. He also has a semi-split personality similar to that of Akito/Agito. When not in a fight is simply cares for food and relaxing. But when the topic of battle comes up his other half takes hold, and he becomes a devastating killing machine. He can also dance. He uses brass knuckles-esque gloves in combat, which combined with his superhuman strength is truly devastating his character design is based on the wrestler Abdullah the butcher note the three lines on his forehead, and his nickname "Buccha". Team: Kogarasumaru Road: Smell Road One of Ikki's childhood friends, Onigiri (オニギリ, Onigiri?) is also part of Kogarasumaru. His head is in the shape of an onigiri. Onigiri is a pervert and characterized as a pig. He has an unusual way of using his perspiration, usually during overall perverted moments, to create illusions. He also has a strange way of using his AT by sitting upside down on it (to the chagrin of his female schoolmates whose skirts he tends to look up while doing this). This way of riding proved to be very dangerous, for both Onigiri and his opponent, as he flails his legs back and forth(doing damage if he's close enough), but can also fall off, landing directly on the point of his head and streaking on the ground until he stops (this, however, is never shown, only an image of an actual onigiri in said position). He is in the same class as Ikki, and follows the "Smell Road." (the authenticity of this road is arguable, since one can't really tell if this was just another one of Oh!Great's jokes. However stated by Akito/Agito in Kyoto, there are "hundreds" of roads. But out of those only 8 roads can be called Road of King.) He can also go as fast (or possibly faster) for short spurts than Ringo, when the right motivation is present. At chapter 171 Onigiri is seen trainning with his friends in order to get stronger than before, most of his techniques have the ability to affect the enemy's senses, create illusions.
