About this title

Synopsis

Shougo is a young man who has a problem with love, not just in humans but even with animals. He is even compelled to kill animals that show each other affection, which lands him in a mental hospital. During therapy, he has a vision where he meets a goddess that dooms him to fall in love with the same girl over and over again, but one of them will always die before they can truly be together.

Shogo is the main protagonist of Apollo no Uta. Having been abandoned by his father shortly after his birth and being raised by a mother who never showed him affection, Shogo started to hate the idea of love, even going so far as to kill animals when they show signs of love for one another. After receiving a shock treatment in a psychiatric consultation, he encounters a God that curse him into falling in love with the same people over and over again, but always shortly before they can be together, one of them die. Melmo was given a bottle of candy from God. The blue candy turns Melmo into a lovely 19-year-old version of herself, while the red candy turns her back into a child. Combining the two turns her first into a fetus, then into an animal of her choosing. When Melmo ages from 9 to 19 her clothes don't grow with her, usually resulting either in shredded clothes, or skin-tight children's clothes on the body of an adult woman. Melmo is a kind-hearted young girl who is frequently torn between her actual age and the things she encounters and wants as her older self. A doctor who saved Shogo from the police and took him to her mountain home. She trains him to be a marathon runner in hopes of healing his heart, but ends up falling for him. Her ex-husband attempts to get her back on several occasions until she saves Shogo from falling from a cliff, when she falls down the side of a mountain and goes blind. She confesses to Shogo shortly before her death. In the last pages of chapter five, she is shown to have the appearance as the Goddess in Shogo's visions.
