About this title

Synopsis

Yusura is a ‘Hikeshi-ya’, a ‘Sadness Fighter’. She carries a staff called Kongomaru that can absorb people’s sadness and turn blue, then turn the sadness into energy. Using Kongomaru, she helps to solve people’s problems (for a small fee, of course), accompanied by her sidekick Minekichi, a young man named Samon, and a ninja, Kazenosuke—and all the while she tries to find clues to the whereabouts of her real parents.

As a child was abandoned by her birth-parents and found under a cherry tree. Now the "hikeshiya", she goes around healing people's sadness with her Kongoumaru (金剛丸). Although she loves her adoptive parents, Yusura is still trying to find her birth-parents. Hot-headed and tomboy-ish, she dresses like a boy and the inability of new characters to identify her gender serves as a running joke through the series. Later she fall in love with Samon. A member of the royal family, he is the son of the Daimyo. However, his mother was a prostitute and the Daimyo was not too happy to learn of his existence. Yusura met him after saving him from some assassins.
