Synopsis

First-year high school student Kiri Koshiba is a skilled hairstylist. Whenever others are bullied or ridiculed for their appearance, she steps in to do some "magic," giving them makeovers that bring out their natural beauty. At Kiri's school, three second-year students make up the popular Scissors Project (SP): Shougo Narumi, the hairstylist; Kei Minami, the nail artist; and Kazuhiko Ochiai, the overall beauty consultant. The SP selectively chooses one female student to makeover and produces amazing results every time. When Kanako Aoyama, Kiri's childhood friend, confesses her feelings to Ochiai by giving him a present, she is accused of bribing her way into becoming the next girl for an SP makeover. Kiri comes to Kanako's defense and performs some "magic" on her, leaving the SP stunned at Kanako's transformation. Not knowing who is responsible, the SP searches for Kanako's hairstylist in order to have a haircutting showdown, the start of a rivalry between Narumi and Kiri. A gifted stylist with no interest in pursuing fame with her talent. Kiri will occasionally give makeovers to girls having certain problems. Kiri tends to have a nonchalant attitude that gets on Narumi's nerves. Her hairstyle annoys him, as well - she wears it in a layer bob (that she gave to herself when she gave up on being a hairstylist), leading him to nickname her "Puffy Head" or "Mussy Head". Kiri usually says the phrase, "I'll help you add a little magic", when she uses her skills to help someone. The only son and heir to the Salon de Narumi. Narumi seems to hate his father and wants to be the best in Japan. He is a talented hairstylist that has won every competition except for the contest in fourth grade where he lost to a mysterious, cute third grade girl. Narumi has never been able to forget that incident and vows for revenge. He often loses his cool around Kiri. He is called Naru-Naru (or Naru-Naru sempai in one part) by both Kiri and Kei. He often doesn't get along well with girls, therefore when he encounters girls he often yells or runs away. Narumi is allergic to girls because his sister and mother always touched him as a child thus he now gets rashes whenever touched by a girl. The member of the Scissors Project that does nail art. Kei is playful and is often seen eating junk food and candy. Kei likes to come up with nicknames for his friends like 'Naru-Naru' and 'Narurin' for Narumi while he calls Ochiai 'Occhi'. He also serves as emcee for any Scissors Project event, announcing the model and occasionally commenting while Narumi cuts. The overall beauty consultant of the group. He is the brains behind the operation and acts like a human computer, with "data" on every girl in the school. He's at the top of his class. Ochiai loves to mess with Narumi and is often scheming. Later on in the story it seems that he develops a crush on Kiri. He chases after her and even has Kiri's picture as his cellphone's wallpaper. When he was in middle school his parents owned a company called Alix Cosmetic Corporation that was, in his opinion, "doing well, even though it was not a well-known enterprise".
