About this title

Synopsis

Most of humanity has been wiped out by mysterious dark monsters known only as "Phantoms." Four survivors, who may well be the last of the human race, have found one another and are sharing a quiet, peaceful existence. These survivors are a kind, dependable teenage boy called Masashi, two teenage girls, shyer Sanae and bolder Yaeko, and a little girl called Anna. They feel as though they're just living in a perpetual "after school" state, waiting for the rest of the human race to come home. As they pass their days together, they begin to see some strange things and find that the monsters have not yet left the Earth. Will they discover what really happened to their planet? Yaeko likes to tell jokes and goes through life one day at a time. Still, she sometimes gets sad after remembering the old world and thinking of the things that she can no longer do. She used to live in the Tama area of Tokyo and spent a lot of time talking with her Science teacher, Hirakawa, as a respite from the stressful life her rich family had pressured her into in order to have her succeed the family business. After she playfully asks Masashi to hit on her just to see what it would be like, Yaeko develops a genuine crush on him. She often jokes about the girls being his "harem" and wonders why he hasn't made a move on any of them yet. She is also jealous of Sanae for being more physically developed than her. Birthday: July 7th Age: 9 (when humanity disappeared), 11 (present) Anna is the youngest of the group and likes to act cute, sometimes referring to herself in the third person and often making crude jokes. She is very afraid of lightning and thunderstorms. She used to live in the Asakusa area of Tokyo with her parents and a cat named Bonkichi. One of Anna's teachers claimed that she has "Savant Syndrome", characterized by incredible potential within a specific area — in her case, Math. She also has a very good memory. After her mother's disappearance, Anna survived awhile with her father until an attack of the Phantoms that left her and Sanae as the only survivors of their group. To cope with the trauma of losing both her parents so close to each other and to her own birthday, Anna tells herself that she will never grow older until her parents return. After spending almost 2 years with Sanae, Yaeko and Masashi, she is finally ready to see her birthday as a happy occasion again. No voice actors have been added to this character. Age: 15 (when humanity disappeared), 17 (present) Masashi keeps an optimistic view of things, believing that humanity isn't extinct and that the people who disappeared will return. He tends to a vegetable garden and raises chickens, and is always looking to gather more knowledge on survival and the Phantoms. He used to live in Suginami City with his parents and little sister, Kiyomi — whom he still sees visions of occasionally.
