About this title
Synopsis
At the tender age of 12, Mitsuki Kouyama has a sarcoma in her throat. Though this rare cancer can be cured by removing her vocal cords, Mitsuki refuses because of her desire to become a pop singer and keep her childhood promise to Eichi Sakurai, her first love who left for America. Unable to both heal and keep her voice, she allows her health to deteriorate, as she accepts her tragic fate. One day, while escaping the home of her music-hating grandmother to attend an audition, Mitsuki meets two shinigami, Takuto Kira and Meroko Yui. Realizing that Mitsuki can see them, Takuto and Meroko reveal to her that she will die in a year. Moved by her plight, Takuto allows Mitsuki the chance to pursue her dream by giving her the ability to transform into a healthy sixteen-year-old girl. After being chosen for a contract with Seed Records, Mitsuki makes her debut under the stage name Full Moon and chooses to pursue her dream music career before her life's end. [Written by MAL Rewrite] Included one-shot: Volume 2: Ginyuu Meika

Main characters
Takuto Kira625 fan favoritesExternal profileBirthday: September 27 Zodiac: Libra Height: 167 cm Weight: 56 kg Blood Type: O Shoe Size: 26 cm Likes: Sweet things, candy Dislikes: Natto Takuto is a shinigami (Death God) partnered with another shinigami, Meroko. Together, they are tasked with taking Mitsuki's soul. His trademark shinigami attire resembles a cat costume, complete with a winged backpack that grants him the ability to fly—something he cannot do on his own, as he has yet to earn his true wings. Takuto also has the ability to transform into an anthropomorphic cat plushie. Using his powers, he transforms Mitsuki into her 16-year-old self to help her pursue her dream of becoming a singer.
Mitsuki Kouyama405 fan favoritesExternal profileAge: 12 Mitsuki Kouyama's dream is to become a singer, and she promises that her dream will come true with Eichi-kun, her lost love. Tragically, she suffers from throat cancer and is later greeted by two shinigami, Meroko and Takuto. Together, they embark on a journey to make her singing dreams come true and defeat all odds of her cancer. Mitsuki loses love and finds new love. Throughout the journey, her heart and voice keep singing.
Meroko Yui317 fan favoritesExternal profileTogether with her partner and love interest, Takuto Kira, Meroko Yui is a part of the shinigami team Negi Ramen, sent to collect the soul of 12-year-old Mitsuki Kouyama. Meroko is a rabbit shinigami with long ears, and she is capable of transforming into an anthropomorphic bunny stuffed toy. She has a hot temper and is sometimes very moody especially when it comes to her relationship with Takuto (despite her constant attempts to impress him, he does not seem to notice her or have the same feelings). Though she tries to help Mitsuki with her singing career, her ideas often get the girl into trouble. In the anime, she is rather fond of changing her appearance into other characters, and her trademark phrase in the anime is "Mero Mero Change!" (Source: Wikipedia; Absolute Anime, edited)
Izumi Rio83 fan favoritesExternal profileIzumi is a shinigami who appears later in the story. He is somewhat cold-hearted and distant, particularly in the anime. Of all the characters in the series, Izumi is the only one whose personality and plot role are noticeably different in the manga and its anime adaptation. In the anime, Izumi's background story is not mentioned and he is portrayed throughout as a cold-hearted character, often as the serie's main antagonist. He makes several attempts to steal Mitsuki's soul over the course of the series, and although he claims to love Meroko, he only seems to do things that cause her pain (as Takuto points out). It is also revealed later that he was the one who assigned Takuto and Meroko to Mitsuki in order to force Takuto to remember his past life as a human by taking the soul of the daughter of his former friend. In the manga, Izumi is much different. He is not set as the stories antagonist, but merely as someone who has lost his path. He did not do most of the antagonizing things he did in the anime, as he did in the manga. In the manga Arina Tanemura makes him a main character who appears in the story in chapter 5. He eventually lives with Mitsuki and the other Shinigami. In volume 5, we find out his backstory. (Source: Wikipedia)
