Main characters
Reiji Mitsurugi1098 fan favoritesExternal profileReiji Mitsurugi is an esteemed prosecutor and an old friend of Ryuuichi Naruhodou. During his first four years as a prosecutor, he had a perfect win record, and he was a ruthless man who would do anything to get a guilty verdict for the defendant. He was adopted by his mentor, Manfred Von Karma, after the death of his father in the DL-6 case. Mitsurugi is generally seen as a snob due to his skeptical, ruthless and generally aloof nature that differs little between everyday life and the courtroom. However, he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and acts only in ways that he believes are fair and just. Generally, Mitsurugi is calm and level-headed when talking with people, although he does tend to come off as a little cold and, sometimes, rather condescending. In court, Mitsurugi usually has the trial precisely planned out, ensuring his victory. Because of this, he tends to become easily ruffled with anything that does not conform to his plan. In particular, he tries to stick to standard courtroom proceedings, trying to make the witnesses state their names and professions, although he regularly has a great deal of difficulty with this task due to the often rather eccentric characters called as witnesses in his cases.
Keisuke Itonokogiri106 fan favoritesExternal profileDetective Dick Gumshoe is the only detective currently employed that Phoenix Wright has any contact with. Though well meaning, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Gumshoe takes great pride in his work, and also in his "strong bond of trust" with the prosecutor's office. He's usually cheerful, is hardworking, and eager to please. But he also takes his job seriously, which causes conflict when he wants to help both sides of the case. Can sometimes be easily discouraged. Gumshoe has two distinct styles of speech depending on which version you play. In the English, Gumshoe ends a lot of his sentences with "Pal." In the Japanese, Itonoko uses slang in which he slurs the ends of his sentences (i.e. "nan desu ka?" becomes "nansska?"). Listen for it in the TGS trailer. The reason Gumshoe seems to be the only working detective through the series is because he uses his "powers of persuasion" to get himself assigned to many cases. Gumshoe has no known family members, but he's very loyal to Prosecutor Edgeworth. Not much about Gumshoe's back story is known, other than he became a detective roughly six months before the case of State vs Fawles. Name Origin English: "Dick" is obviously a reference to him being a "detective," and "Gumshoe," is a common slang for a PI. Japanese: "Itonokogiri" roughly means, "a saw." The creator says he chose the name for its uniqueness. The name "Keisuke" was taken from a musician. French: Comes from "detective."
