Reiji Mitsurugi is an esteemed prosecutor and an old friend of Ryuuichi Naruhodou. During his first four years as a prosecutor, he had a perfect win record, and he was a ruthless man who would do anything to get a guilty verdict for the defendant. He was adopted by his mentor, Manfred Von Karma, after the death of his father in the DL-6 case. Mitsurugi is generally seen as a snob due to his skeptical, ruthless and generally aloof nature that differs little between everyday life and the courtroom. However, he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and acts only in ways that he believes are fair and just. Generally, Mitsurugi is calm and level-headed when talking with people, although he does tend to come off as a little cold and, sometimes, rather condescending. In court, Mitsurugi usually has the trial precisely planned out, ensuring his victory. Because of this, he tends to become easily ruffled with anything that does not conform to his plan. In particular, he tries to stick to standard courtroom proceedings, trying to make the witnesses state their names and professions, although he regularly has a great deal of difficulty with this task due to the often rather eccentric characters called as witnesses in his cases.

"Ace Attorney" and main character of the first three games, Phoenix has wanted to be a defense lawyer since he was a kid, and first appears as the new addition to Mia Fey's law practice. Phoenix is generally easy-going, which usually leads to his friends leading him around. He's dedicated to defending his innocent clients, but because he's just starting out he depends a lot on his boss and mentor, Mia Fey. Phoenix is also a loyal friend who won't back down once he's set his mind on something. He has a bit of a sarcastic side that he usually keeps to himself. Director Takumi speculates that before studying to become a lawyer, Phoenix may have gone to college to become a Shakespearean actor. Character artist Suekana, however, prefers to think he would have been a manga artist. Phoenix is an only child, but he's close friends with Larry Butz prior to the game, and is Mia Fey's employee. No reference as to his parents. (Source: Court Records)

Heir to a prominent family of spiritualists, Maya is Phoenix's obligatory perky sidekick during all three games. Mayoi is optimistic, excitable, friendly, curious, and a fangirl for all things Steel Samurai. Like her sister she is tenacious to a fault, and very attached to her Naruhodou-kun. Not always the brightest but loyal and outgoing. Mayoi originally was going to be working in Chihiro's office, training to become a lawyer. But the producers thought Naruhodou had too many allies, so they asked one to be cut. That was how the writers came up with the idea for the Turnabout Sister's case, and using spirit channeling to combine two of Naruhodou's allies into one. Maya's spiritual powers are still somewhat underdeveloped, and she has trouble calling spirits sometimes. Mayoi has an older sister, Chihro. Her mother has been missing for 15 years, but she has an aunt, Morgan, and a cousin, Harumi. Her mother is Misty Fey. Mayoi grew up in Kurain, training to be a spiritual medium. After the disappearance of her mother when she was two, and later because her sister left the village, she is destined to become the heir of her family. Though her sister left home they still remain in contact and are very close. Name Origin: English: "Fey" was probably chosen as a last name because of it's connection to magic/spiritualism (as in, Morgan le Fay). Maya is pretty close to her Japanese name, Mayoi. Japanese: The creator picked Mayoi from a list of kanji he liked. Together they mean, "True Evening," a "mysterious name that fits perfectly with the opening setting of Reversal Sisters."
