About this title

Synopsis

For his art project Mikuriya Jin carved a statue from the recently chopped local sacred tree. As he is about to bring it to school, the goddess of the tree, Nagi, descends upon the statue, having slept until now, not knowing of her demise. Since the sacred tree can no longer protect the surrounding area from impurities, Nagi has to do it herself now, dragging poor Jin with her. Kannagi had four volumes published in English as Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens by Bandai Entertainment from June 7, 2011 to April 10, 2012 before the publisher went defunct. It has also been published in Italian by RW Edizioni under the GOEN imprint since November 28, 2015.

Opposite to Nagi who had her powers weakened due to her sacred tree being cut down, Zange's tree is still intact and located in a church's courtyard, thus she is still able to catch and cleanse impurities by herself. The fact that she switched her character to that of a Catholic nun, as it is a stronger religion, contributed to her divinity being intact. Despite seemingly being kind and caring on the outside, she usually takes advantage of Nagi's weakened state to torment her.
