About this title

Synopsis

Mai Kasai was part of a group of girls that brutally bullied fellow classmate Shino during middle school. Though she never directly bullied Shino, she watched her friends do the torture that forced Shino to transfer schools. Due to her father's work transfer, Mai transfers from her high school in Tokyo to a school in the countryside. Although Mai thinks she can have a fairly easy school life by manipulating the classroom hierarchy, her days are ruined when she finds out Shino is her new classmate. Now with a passion for revenge, Shino and Mai switch places, with the former becoming the mastermind, and the latter becoming the victim in bullying hell. (Source: ANN)

Kizudarake no Akuma was adapted into a live-action film which released in Japan on February 4, 2017. The first 259 chapters were published digitally in English as The Wounded Devil by NHN comico through Pocket Comics from November 30, 2020 to July 11, 2025 before the platform was discontinued.

In middle school, she adopted the goal to get through her remaining childhood as smoothly as possible, until she can become independent. For that goal, she generally tries to stay out of trouble. She barely talks to her family members, because this could mean getting into a fight. She keeps her grades always slightly above the average, in order to not stand out and avoid trouble with teachers and family. She gets on good terms with the influential members of a class and ignores the rest, without actively promoting any actions. Besides bullying, her move away from Tokyo was also due to familial problems with her mother.
