Synopsis

It is the late 1980s. Rumors of a witch living inside an old mansion circulate in the city. Unbeknownst to observers, living inside the mansion is an actual witch, Alice Kuonji, a stoic woman and a magus hiding in the present day. Under her tutelage studies Aoko Aozaki, a high school student studying magecraft as the head of the Aozaki family. As magi, the two of them secretly fight any threat that enters their town. Things start to change when a young man unfamiliar with city life, Soujuurou Shizuki, enters their lives. Slowly, he affects the lives of these two magi. And so their story begins... Aozaki Touko appeared initially as the sister of Aozaki Aoko in the publicly unreleased novel Mahoutsukai no Yoru, and made a later appearance in Kara no Kyoukai. In the animated movies of Kara no Kyoukai, she is voiced by Honda Takako, while Inoue Kikuko lent her her voice for the drama CDs. In Kara no Kyoukai, she is shown as a puppet maker and occasionally as a designer of buildings. Together with Kokutou Mikiya, she runs a kind of detective agency (伽藍の洞, Garan no Dou) that only engages in cases with supernatural or abnormal elements. Touko does not share a particularly good relationship with her sister, yet the causes for this break are unknown. She's a powerful Magus, and she's able to reproduce parts of a body that can be used instead of the lost part. While this would be nothing special, she can reproduce the part in such a perfect way that it comes close to the real one. The glasses Tohno Shiki wears were originally made by Touko. Her sister Aoko stole them from Touko and made them indestructible. As a doll-maker, she received a Sealing Designation for creating a doll (body) that was an exact replica of her own body. Touko has 20 Magic Circuits, which was a surprise to the Aozaki clan as the number of Magic Circuits in their line had been dwindling. Due to her formidable power, Mage's Association dubbed her with the Orange color (橙), which is close to the three primary colors. At the time, Shiki was still under hospital care and recovering from his accident which caused him to see lines that no one else could, and Shiki suddenly got special powers that he didn't know how to use properly. It was she who gave him a special pair of glasses that block the lines from his vision. However, the biggest gift that she gave him was the meaning and will to live his life in a good way. She taught him to never use his Mystic Eyes with the intention of killing, but instead to use them to protect those he cares dearly about. She doesn't like her name (since it sounds like Blue Blue - Ao = Blue), so Shiki decides to call her "Teacher". (Note that Shiki never referred to anyone else in his life as teacher; that's how much he respects her.) She seems like a nice person but she actually has a rough personality. She is a mage from the Mage's Association. Although, she isn't just an ordinary mage, but one of the five great magic users still alive. People know her as "Magic Gunner, Miss Blue" and fear her power. Although her actual magic is a mystery. She also has a sister that appears in the parallel story of Tsukihime, Kara no Kyokai. Soujuurou Shizuki is a young man from a rural location, having lived deep in the mountains without even electricity. In a way, it's as if he's in a time slip state. He is impressed by the city, but slowly adjusting into ordinary high school life. Soujuurou is a person of few words, but possesses a warm personality in contrast to Aoko and Alice. He is the kind of person that most people can grow accustomed to. He is a stable person who tends to keep quiet, even if he really believes in something. While not a special person, he isn't a normal person either. While generally a happy person, he can display a cold nature embodying "A good man on the surface, but in reality..." He doesn't possess a "self" when he first arrives in the city, and he cannot even qualify as a human. Normal humans will have subjective thought mixed into whatever they see, and they will choose what to see and what not to see. He will not nor knows how to judge the value of something or the basis of whether it is good or evil. He is forced to slowly adjust to human society as time passes. Alice wishes for his core way of thinking to never change, while Aoko thinks that the way he keeps changing is dangerous.
