Synopsis

Long before Naruto Uzumaki mastered the formidable Rasengan, Minato Namikaze trains to develop the ninjutsu under the tutelage of his mentor Jiraiya. Minato strives to create his own powerful technique to protect Kushina Uzumaki, the strong-willed woman he loves. Honoring Uzumaki clan tradition, Kushina's body hosts the nine-tailed fox spirit, Kurama. The demon seeks to break free from his confines and wreak havoc on the world. Following the NARUTOP99 Worldwide Character Popularity Vote commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Naruto anime, Naruto Gaiden: Uzu no Naka no Tsumujikaze was released to compliment the winning character Minato Namikaze. In celebration of the new manga, a special column series about Minato was made available on the official website between July 19, 2023, and July 23, 2023. The one-shot was published digitally as an English simulpub as Naruto: The Whorl within the Spiral through MANGA Plus.

Doing so cost him his life, and before dying he asked that the villagers not see Naruto as the monster within him, instead wanting him to be viewed as a hero, a request ignored by the villagers. "Namikaze" translates literally as "Wave wind." "Minato" translates as "Harbor" or "Port." Minato is said to be one of the greatest ninja Konoha has ever produced, with natural talent that had not been seen in many years. He specializes in using the Hiraishin no Jutsu, a technique the Second Hokage, Tobirama created, which essentially allowed him to teleport to any location with the use of a special seal. By attaching the seal to a kunai or an enemy, Minato could teleport to the location of the seal unnoticed, allowing him to wipe out nearby opponents almost instantly. This ability led to his title as "Konoha's Yellow Flash," and it caused him to be seen as so dangerous that a flee-on-sight order was given in regards to him during the Third Ninja War. He also created the Rasengan, a technique that does not rely on hand seals but instead uses a concentration of spinning chakra in one's palm that causes immense damage to its victim on contact. Later in the series it is revealed that technique is actually incomplete. Minato had planned to add his own nature manipulation training to the Rasengan, making it even more powerful, but could not manage to prior to his death.

She had a son, Naruto Uzumaki, with the Hokage of the time, Minato Namikaze. She is noted to have had a brash, tomboyish demeanor, long red hair, violet eyes, and as time passed, blossomed into a very beautiful woman. Despite Naruto's close resemblance to his father, much of his personality and choice of ninjutsu are said to be similar to that of his mother's. She is presumed to be dead, as she is described in past tense. Her face is shown in a couple slides as she is talking with Jiraiya and Minato Namikaze. In this part of the manga Jiraiya is lying on the ground while having flashbacks. In his flashbacks he is with Minato and Kushina as they are naming their unborn child "Naruto".
