He is the son of Rihan and Wakana Nura and grandson of Nurarihyon and Yohime. He is the third and current head of the Nura Clan. Due to having yokai blood in his lineage, Rikuo has two forms: one in which he takes a human form, and another where his yokai blood takes over and he becomes a full yokai. The former is frequently called his "day" form, whereas the latter is called his "night" form, as originally he was only able to maintain it during darkness. Rikuo was originally reluctant to accept his yokai blood and his role as the successor to the Nura Clan because he was teased at school for talking about yokai. As he ages, he realizes he has the ability to protect both humans and yokai because of his heritage, and acknowledges himself as the third leader of the Nura Clan. Rikuo has officially exchanged sakazuki with Zen, Kubinashi, Tsurara, Jami, Kappa, Kurotabo and Aotabo.

She follows him to school under a human guise known as Tsurara Oikawa. She is a Yuki Onna yokai. Around the Nura House, she sometimes acts as a cook who makes delicious but usually chilled or cold food. Her eyes are dark blue while in human form and golden while in yokai form. She is fiercely loyal to Rikuo and will do anything for him. She gets visibly jealous when Rikuo mentions Kana and loves Rikuo deeply, though it is not clear if her love is romantic.
