Shinobu is Sakura's friend, and agrees to hunt mermaids with her even though Shinobu herself isn't in love with anyone and doubts that love obtained through this method is genuine. She reads the entire notebook thoroughly and, after discovering that mermaid's blood is sufficient to avoid being turned into one, refuses to eat the mermaids' flesh or kill them.
