Synopsis

The stage is set. The preparations are complete. A grand battle royale known as "The Sekirei Project" is about to take the streets of Shintou Teito by storm. For this event, the shadowy corporation known as MBI has developed 108 "Sekirei"—advanced humanoid beings with extraordinary combat skills. Set free into the city, these Sekirei must search for their "Ashikabi," masters who can unlock and control their fighting potential through kissing. Once all the Sekirei are paired, they must battle until one team emerges victorious and claims the enigmatic grand prize. Enter Minato Sahashi, a ronin whose life is as bleak as it gets. Weak-willed and unconfident by nature, his circumstances become even more hopeless when he fails his college entrance exams for the second time. However, when he encounters a Sekirei called Musubi, a bond sparks between them, and he finds himself becoming her Ashikabi. Although he begins to enjoy his life with Musubi and the other Sekirei he bonded with, he consequently finds himself increasingly embroiled in The Sekirei Project. Sekirei was published digitally in English by Yen Press under their Yen Press World imprint from November 24, 2015, to November 27, 2018. The publisher physically released the series in 2-in-1 omnibuses from July 25, 2017, to November 12, 2019. It has also been published in Italian by J-POP since June 9, 2012.

Height: 165cm Weight: 47kg Sekirei No: 09 Three size: B 94 / W 57 / H 88 She is Minato's fourth Sekirei and her power is water (derived from her name "umi" which means the sea). She contacted him over a dream saying that she would kill him, but when they finally met she was persuaded into becoming his Sekirei. (chs. 22-23) She says that she is Minato's legal wife. At the beginning, she wanted to be the strongest to demonstrate that Ashikabi were not necessary to win but later she confides to Miya that her only goal is to get stronger to protect and live together with her Ashikabi forever. Tsukiumi is a Sekirei with a tsundere personality and the most aggressive of Minato's party and has a very short temper; she rarely smiles. She was introduced as the first Sekirei that wanted to become the strongest without the help of an Ashikabi. She even stated that she was willing to kill her future Ashikabi if she would ever react to him/her, due to her hate towards Ashikabis[4]. She changed a lot after getting winged by Minato and easily gets jealous when Minato comes in contact with other women, due to her feelings for her Ashikabi. She proclaimed herself to be Minato's legal wife which caused a rivalry between her and Minato's remaining Sekirei, in general Musubi with who she often competes to gain the right to be called 'Minato's legal wife'. Height: 161cm Weight: 48kg Three size: B 97 / W 58 / H 89 The heroine. Minato's first Sekirei. She met Minato when she fell out of the sky. She is a power-Strength-type Sekirei. After hearing Tsukiumi say that she is Minato's wife she decides that she is gonna be his wife too. She is very naive and often says things she does not understand. She also eats a lot. At times she has a ferocious bear appear behind her, which didn't actually appear until after she became Miya's disciple. Personality Musubi is very naive, positive and insightful, often says things she does not understand, and is probably the most 'childish' of Minato's Sekireis, even more so than Kusano. She is, however, very eager when it comes into confronting other Sekireis (to the point where her eyes gleam and sparkle at the prospect of fighting another) but never fails to be polite as she would usually asks for permission first before fighting them. Abilities and Powers Musubi plays a crucial part in Minato's team and is always seen participating in Sekirei battles due to her desire to fight strong opponents. Musubi's abilities are hand-to-hand combat which utilizes her greatly enhanced strength. This is enforced by the heavy combat gloves she always wears. Her attacks and techniques are mostly punches and kicks which are supported by her ridiculous strength. Something else notable about Musubi is that she also has a good amount of stamina and endurance evidenced during her first fight with Benitsubasa. She took several hits during that fight and was still able to stand up to Benitsubasa's surprise who thought that she went down after one hit. Even the Disciplinary Squads Ashikabi acknowledges her strength and came to the conclusion that Benitsubasa would have a hard fight against her without using her Norito. Height: 170 cm Weight: 53 kg Sekirei No: 03 Three size: 98/60/92 She becomes Minato's fifth Sekirei and her power is wind (derived from her name "kaze" which means wind and "Hana" which means flower). She meets Minato at the "Izumo inn" and seems to know his father (was possibly in-love with him and wanted to be his Sekirei). Because of Minato's possible resemblance to his father, she begins to develop feelings towards him and eventually becomes his Sekirei. She later addresses herself as Minato's "new wife". Personality: Normally, Kazehana displays a very relaxed personality and often becomes giddy when discussing matters of love. She's also confident in her natural sex appeal and not afraid to speak her mind as she openly admitted in front of the others that she loved MBI Director Minaka Hiroto, however she was rejected after the confession as he loved someone else. She seems to show hatred towards Takami Sahashi as she could be the person that Minaka Hiroto loved. Due to this, Kazehana stated that she didn't had any interest in things such as the Sekirei Plan because she didn't expect to like and accept an Ashikabi other than Minaka. She questioned herself however if Minato would be able to convince her to become his Sekirei and decided to put him up to the test. Despite Minato's lack of 'manliness', his concern and love for his Sekirei caused Kazehana to develop feelings for him and she eventually became his Sekirei. Like Tsukiumi, Kazehana addresses herself as Minato's 'wife'. Currently she competes for Minato's affection by joining the shopping contests and wearing all kinds of outfits from Uzume's collection in order to make him "happy". History Not much is known about Minato's past, except that Matsu states that he originally is a native from Wakayama and was raised by a typical family. He had top scores from elementary to high school. We also get to know from Yukari, that Minato would always help her out in the past when she would get lost in dark places like a forest, even though he as child feared those places himself. He would often carry her out. Personality Minato is highly intelligent, capable of devising ways on how to make better use of Sekirei abilities and is able to execute strategies in order to beat the opponent in Sekirei battles. Despite his capabilities, Minato is an insecure individual in the beginning who has a passive personality and often lacks the confidence to go against his own Sekirei when they decide on something. A computer genius and hacker that lives in a secret room of Izumo Inn, and was once mistaken for a ghost by Kusano. She becomes Minato's third Sekirei. She also likes to shorten people's names and substitute tan for san. Matsu uses a vast network of satellites and spying devices to gather large amounts of information and has even succeeded in hacking the MBI mainframe computer. She refers to herself as the 'Wisdom' Sekirei. However, despite her high intellect, she is very perverse - she uses her resources to peep on people and often tries to 'experiment' with Minato and so most call her the 'Shameless' Sekirei. Matsu serves primarily as Minato's unofficial 'strategist', rarely venturing outside of the Inn and using her vast network of information to aid him. Matsu has the power to access and analyze any electronic device on a telepathic level, but does not have the power to control them. Her name means a "pine" literally. Minato's sixth Sekirei. At first he was the self-proclaimed 'Sekirei guardian', he often interrupted Hikari and Hibiki's fights to side with the unwinged Sekirei. Homura is said to be a Sekirei prototype (his power and gender are unstable), however he continues to think and act as a male even after his body started becoming female. He lives at Izumo Inn as "Kagari", a popular host club entertainer and no one except Miya, Uzume, Matsu and Kazehana know his secret identity. He's later revealed to be Sekirei #6 and his ability is the basic element, "Fire". By the end of the second stage he was the last unwinged Sekirei. The MBI director sent a message to all Ashikabi that the last unwinged Sekirei was in the north area, and became hunted by them. Homura was been reacting to Minato, which caused 'him' great stress over his potential Ashikabi being male, although Homura almost kissed Minato once. Homura has left Izumo Inn to go after Minaka Takehito (game master and head of the MBI) in order to bring an end to the Sekirei game. After being cornered by other ashikabi who wanted to wing him, Homura decides to commit suicide by igniting his body with his own flames, but is saved in the last time by Minato and his Sekirei crew.
