Grim reapers strike a balance in the world by upholding that life is built upon someone's death. For this reason, they do not involve themselves with humans any more than necessary. Velius, however, is one who loves and cleaves to his only mortal "son," Ende. Little Ende knows that Velius is a grim reaper but is unaware of the wicked duties that it entails.
