Synopsis

The Demon Queen Sheila has massacred over half of the human population, holding no regard for life. With no end in sight to her reign of terror, the people elect a hero to vanquish the Demon Queen and her monster kin. However, the chosen hero, Exa, is not exactly humanity's champion: he values not only human lives but those of monsters as well. During his journey, the idealistic Exa saves a monster girl from a dragon, completely unaware that this girl is the Demon Queen herself. Intrigued by a human who would save one of his species' enemies, Sheila poses as a meek, lovestruck monster and joins him on his journey—all while planning to stab him in the back. Even as she is continuously exposed to Exa's ideals, Sheila stands firm on her plan. The Demon Queen who had personally wiped out half of humanity after experiencing the loss of her beloved dragon at a young age. The slaying of her dragon drastically changed her view and opinion of humans. Although a monster, Sheila resembles a human girl in all aspects except for her ears, which have a triangular shape and folds that make them look like gills. In the beginning of the first volume, Sheila at first intended to get close to Exa so she could murder him, but instead finds herself accidentally developing a romantic interest for Exa. She does not wish to kill him, but cannot ignore the fact that Exa is a threat. Sheila puts on the facade of being a meek demon to persuade Exa to take her along on his journey, so she can follow him. Ironically, Exa's journey is to find the Demon Lord and kill her. However, Exa does not realize that she is in fact the Demon Lord, who Exa is determined to kill. Upon meeting Exa, she temporarily deserted her post as Demon Queen to join his group, and so she created a Copy of herself that would fill in her place; although mere moments after being born, Copy openly declared that she would destroy Sheila and become the "original" Demon Lord. Sheila does not address Exa by his name, but instead calls him Hero or 'Yusha' due to her growing love for him. No voice actors have been added to this character. Exa is the Hero who dreams of monsters and humans co-existing in harmony. He values all monster and human life, and does not wish to kill anyone, firmly believing that the war can end without the complete extermination of one race. Despite his philosophy, he will make an exception for the Demon Queen, whom Exa can never forgive for the atrocious crimes she has committed, as well as for the murder of his family and friends at the hands of the latter. Exa believes that with the death of the Demon Lord, peace could be restored to the world. While Exa acts cool and collected for the most part, he does loosens up around those he trusts. Exa is a peaceful, kind and calm individual. While calm for the most part, he does become rather short-tempered sometimes, especially around Sheila. Even when he was a boy, he was a pacifist who didn't like fighting, something his neighbors thought was a waste. This attitude is often made evident whenever he refuses to kill other monsters, and prefers to run away from a battle or discuss a solution. This irritates Sheila to no end as it often causes Exa to be in danger (and then she has to rescue him). Coupled with his willingness to give strangers the benefit of the doubt and protect humans and monsters alike, she often calls him naive and a "simpleton". Exa's right hand man. Prior his meeting with Exa, he had a past consumed by violence, but was pulled out of it with the aid of Exa. After that Lakshri swore that he would follow him for the rest of his life. Despite being good friends with Exa he clearly lacks the latter's modesty and humbleness, often bragging about his skills (specially with women, for Lakshri becomes infatuated with almost every women that he sees), as well as displaying a certain degree of immaturity or lack of manners (usually when he's around Angelica or Crowe). At first, Lakshri appears to be a complete womanizer (and for the most part, he is). He is easygoing, playful, and kind. He likes to tease Angelica mercilessly about her weight and her "lack of assets". He is often sent flying by Angelica or Sheila because of his attempts to harass them. However, Lakshri is shown to have a more serious side. Before meeting Exa, he was merciless and had no qualms about hurting people. Now, Exa has become his emotional support. When Exa expressed doubt in his abilities as the Hero, Lakshri did not hestitate to restore him to his senses by punching him in the face (twice). Lakshri first met Exa in the tournament to choose the Hero of the people. Exa defeated him easily without even hurting him and Lakshri admired him for it. He was even more amazed when Exa declared his intention to defeat the Demon Lord without killing any monsters. Intrigued, he decided to follow Exa "to the depths of Hell, if it was interesting enough". In Superior Cross, it was revealed that he was an orphan growing up in the streets. He had no one to depend on so he stole food whenever he was hungry. Later, he became best friends with another orphan named Clive who was like his older brother and would always protect him. However, after an accident which crippled Clive, Lakshri realized that he depened on him far too much. After seeing the flyer for the Hero tournament, he decided to become stronger and not cause Clive anymore trouble. No voice actors have been added to this character. A quarter demon (one of Angelica's grandparents was a demon) with extremely strong and inherited magical abilities. Abused as a child for her demonic abilities, she is devoted to Exa as he was the first person to show her kindness. Oddly enough, her jeweled staff is used to control and limit her power, but not to enhance it. Angelica's right eye is red due to her demon blood. To avoid conflict and controversy with the other humans, Angelica hides her right eye behind her bangs. While usually a kind and gentle person, whenever she loses her temper she will use her superhuman strength against the one who has upset her (usually Lakshri).
