About this title

Synopsis

The official comic adaptation of Bandai's Cartoon Network hit, a stylish "manga meets film noir" story which goes BEYOND the plot of the TV series! Paradigm City is the city of amnesia—40 years ago, SOMETHING happened that wiped out the memories of the residents, forcing them to recreate their culture from scattered fragments. In this world only 40 years old, Roger Smith is a negotiator—a go-between for police, citizens and criminals in high-risk diplomatic situations. But something else survives from the forgotten past. They are the MegaDeuses—giant robots created by the city's former inhabitants, or perhaps by the forgetful citizens themselves. When crime and madness strike, Roger Smith brings the guilty to justice with the giant robot called THE BIG O. (Source: Viz)

    R. Dorothy Wayneright is Roger's assistant. She resembles Dorothy Soldano, a daughter of rich scientist Miguel Soldano, she is later revealed to be an android constructed by him. Her actual "father" would be Timothy Wayneright, the man who commissioned her construction and father of the real Dorothy Wayneright. To show her gratitude, and as a form of payment for Roger's help, she decides to move in with him and help out Norman with the chores. Dorothy has formed a habit of playing a fast Chopin piece when Roger oversleeps, and Roger states that it is an irritating way to start his day. As an android, Dorothy cannot feel human emotions. Because of this, Roger often asks Dorothy for her opinion on certain subjects. Not only does Dorothy's opinion remain uninfluenced by human emotions and personally unbiased, but it allows Roger to further understand her complexity.

Major Dan Dastun (later promoted to colonel in the second season) is the head of the Military Police. He is Roger's former commander, but they still maintain contact. Dastun resents having the force called the "watchdogs" of the Paradigm Corporation, and has expressed his disdain for its executives. He also knows that Alex Rosewater does not care about many of the residents. Dastun's pride as a member of the military police puts him somewhat at odds with Roger after he resigns from the force, and he expresses an extreme amount of irritation every time Big O appears. At first this irritation is passed off as disliking the vigilante nature of the Megadeus. However, as the series progresses, he reveals to Roger that his irritation stems from the fact that the Military Police do not have the ability to protect the city adequately due to frequent Megadeus attacks. This requires Big O to step in fairly often to counter these attacks, which Dastun feels robs the military police of purpose. However, he comes to accept this during season 2. He is also one of the few characters who know of Roger's affiliation with Big O, and the only such character within the military police. He was revealed to have obtained this knowledge at some point before season 2, but is only seen directly discussing it with Roger once.
