Encrid is the main protagonist of The Knight Who Only Lives Today. He is a footsoldier who obtains the ability to go back in time prior to his most recent death. Encrid learned rudimentary swordsmanship from a retired mercenary who he crossed paths with when the mercenary passed through his town. He gained his dream to become a knight from this mercenary who complimented the capacity he had for supposedly learning. At some point in his life, Encrid wound up in the position as the fourth company, fourth platoon's fourth squad leader, also referred to as the "444 squad leader corporal." Encrid spectates a squire from the Knights of the Order of the Crimson Cloaks, and he becomes aware of the gap between his own skill and that of the squire. He later takes the test for promotion as a footsoldier after recovering from his wounds, and he is promoted from his rank of "base" to "high" within Naulilia's ranking system. Afterwards, he receives several offers to join other divisions, but he ultimately turns them down in favor of remaining with the fourth company.
