Tatsuma Hiyuu is a mysterious boy who transfers to Magami High School. He is often shown as being very silent, amiable, and carefree, but actually he has more insight on the people around him. He usually hangs out with Kyouichi and helps him fight gangsters from other schools, giving him the status of the fifth most delinquent student in Magami High School's history. Tatsuma is probably the only one in the group who is close to Kyouichi and would often calmly tease and irritate him. He is a skilled martial artist and fights using a "tekou" (wrist and hand armor); he knows a person's vital points, whether or not they are fighting seriously, and if they have killed before. He is often the first to realize a threat that is approaching them, and sometimes gets a strange feeling when someone near him is in danger. Unbeknownst to his friends, and adding to his mysteriousness, prior to enrolling in Magami High, it is revealed that Tatsuma was sent there by his Sensei, who said that his skills would be needed in Shinjuku. Tatsuma carries strange birthmarks on his hands, and although it is never shown in the anime, he also carries markings on both feet as well as a larger symbol on his chest. His father told him to treasure them because they gave him powers that will one day be of important use. However, only Aoi knows of his marks. In flashbacks of his childhood, Tatsuma played games with other kids and he was instantly able to guess or find the other children with some sort of precognitive powers. This caused the other kids to shun or fear Tatsuma, making him feel different. He has had a difficult time making friends because of this. Due to his handsome looks and habit of falling asleep in class, Tatsuma is often called "Sleeping Beauty" by his homeroom teacher. He is always seen wearing a blue hoody, with his school uniform worn over it. Tatsuma dislikes regular milk, so when he was a child, his mother mixed in some strawberries, calling it 'magic'. Since then, he is often seen drinking strawberry milk. Presently Tatsuma lives alone after traveling to Tokyo. Tatsuma is a descendant of Tatsuto Hiyuu from the prequel game Tokyo Majin Gakuen: Gehouchou. Tatsuto and Tenkai Kodzunu had battled during the Bakumatsu, and this is shown in flashbacks between Tatsuma and Tendou Kodzunu. He often gets into fights with gangsters from other schools as well as street thugs. When he first encounters Tatsuma, they engage in a fierce fight, which turns out to have been just a way of getting to know each other. Both have an instant connection and become close friends. When he was still a child, Kyouichi's father was a bouncer for a bar in the red-light district, and was killed by a local gang. After the death of his father, Kyouichi picked up his dad's bokutō and took it upon himself to take revenge against the assailants; he has a strong yet brash sense of justice, and though a bully, he fights to clean up the streets of Kabuki-cho. However, his immature self-righteousness nearly gets him killed by older boys, but a mysterious ronin named Kyoushiro Kamui saved him. Kamui, undertaking Kyouichi as his student, taught him the way of the sword in hopes of calming Kyouichi's hardened spirit. Kamui also introduced child-Kyouichi to Dr. Iwayama of Sakuragaoka Central Hospital, which specializes in supernatural cases, as well as gives him a home at the drag club DIVA. When Kamui suddenly disappears, it's no wonder Kyouichi felt as if he'd lost another father. A rather laid-back badboy, Kyouichi's favorite place is a local ramen shop. He may seem to be mean to others, but in the end, he always has their backs and tries to protect them. This is mostly seen towards Aoi, who he is always cruelly blunt towards, but he may care for her more than he admits. The respected President of Magami High School's Student Council is liked by all, and she is best friends with Komaki Sakurai. Aoi is a sensitive person, sweet to the point of being naïve, and she gets very upset whenever someone is in trouble or hurt; she's compassionate and believes there is good in all people. Although Aoi's quiet, kind temperament causes her to struggle when she gains power, until she becomes obsessed with protecting people. This stems from a childhood memory, when she was unable to save a friend from dying in a fire. Trapped herself by burning rubble, Aoi carries a scar down her back which she calls her stigma. She's ashamed of her scar, and only shows it to Tatsuma Hiyuu when he goes to her during her depression. Tatsuma exchanges a similar story, showing her his own birthmarks, which leads the two kind-hearted, empathic teenagers to grow closer. Aoi is considered to be the weakest member of the Magami team during their battles to protect Tokyo, and everyone is always looking out for her - Kyouichi in particular, who forces her to stand down too often in order to protect her. Despite his rude, cruel attitude towards her, Aoi is never troubled by his mean tone and tries to defend herself. Although it is subtle, Aoi and Kyouichi obviously have feelings for each other. She also seems to have strong feelings for Tatsuma especially at the end of the series, she even calls out his name at graduation. Both Aoi and Tatsuma share the exact same personality traits, so it is often Tatsuma who offers to talk candidly with her, without judgments or fighting. Born under the Yata (八咫) star, Aoi's Shukusei (Star of Fate) is represented in the Sanshu no Jingi (Three Sacred Treasures) class and symbolizes the Yata-no-kagami, or the "Eight Hand Mirror", an object of Wisdom and Honesty. Further burdened by her Fate, Aoi discovers that she also has the Bosatsu-gan (Bodhisattva Eye) and holds incredible powers of healing and resurrection. To the everyday eye, this reserved, inconspicuous young man is the owner of an antiques shop, whose kin has had business dealings with the Misato family for a long time. In fact, Hisui has been close to Aoi since the two met as little children, being drawn to her warm sincereity and sympathy. She is quick to defend Aoi when Kyouichi says mean things about her, and at times her friendship seems rather possessive. Unlike Aoi, tomboy Komaki is aggressive towards people who get in the way or harm those she cares about; she's quick to judge and can come off as unsympathetic. Despite her shortcomings, Komaki is a true friend once her trust is won. She is a champion archer, and although her fighting strengths are strong, Komaki is the weakest, emotionally and psychologically, of the five after gaining powers—she starts off being afraid and bitter at the fact that they have to risk their lives battling demons. Komaki doesn't seem too interested in dating, and so she is oblivious to Yuuya Daigo's crush on her. However, as time goes on and the five friends struggle, Komaki realizes how greatly Yuuya tries to protect her, and she soon accepts and returns his affection. Outwardly he appears to be hardened, but actually he is rather sensitive and honest. Despite his sports background, he enjoys cooking and aspires to go to a culinary college. He has a deep sense of justice, and dislikes frivolous people, like Kyouichi seems to him.
