Synopsis

Marin and her sister Urin live in the sea. One day they find a ring fallen into the sea. They get out of the sea and meet a girl Kanon, the owner of the ring. Kanon tells them she doesn't want the ring anymore because it was given by her boyfriend whom she just broke up with, and she throws it into the forest. Kanon is a sky dweller who, after doubting her relationship with her then would-be boyfriend Kojima, throws her ring -- a gift from him -- into the sea. This eventually leads to her meeting Marin, which leads to Urin releasing Sedna and Kanon becoming the priestess of the sky. Together, they fend off the minions of Sedna to the best of their abilities. Kanon also seem to have the ability to manifest her darker thoughts into a visible aura, which earned her a nickname among her friends and classmates. Ironically enough, while the old turtle, Matsumoto, often chastises her for this, pointing out that it makes her unfit to be a priestess, that very ability actually made her more resistant to the ill effects of Sedna's presence.

Marin is the older "sister" of the two. (It is revealed that the people of the sea doesn't group into several families like the sky dwellers, but instead consider all of the members as family.) Being born out of a shell, it's unclear of whether she and Urin has any actual parents. When a ring drops into the sea, Marin is the one who finds it. Curious about who could drop something so beautiful into the water, she heads off to land, where she meets up with Kanon, the owner of the ring. After Urin accidentally releases the skybound half of Sedna, Marin learns that she's the next priestess of the sea, and together with Kanon, she fights off the forces of Sedna.

While the people of the sea doesn't share biological bonds the same way the sky dwellers (aka "Human beings") do, Marin still considers Urin to be her little sister. When the ring drops into the sea and Marin decides to head up there and return it, Urin follows her, concerned about what she heard about the sky dwellers. Later, she accidentally (and partially through manipulation) frees one half of the entity known as Sedna.
