About this title

Synopsis

Since long ago, there have been two separate worlds—Earth as known by humans, and Metamoor, where spirits and fantastic creatures reside. Due to Metamoor's power-hungry ruler, Prince Phobos, a veil between the two planets was created to prevent him from infiltrating Earth. Watching over them is a council of powerful spirits from Kandrakar, a realm located between the two worlds. However, the veil has begun to weaken, leaving the council to rely on the arrival of the legendary Guardians of Kandrakar. Meanwhile, on Earth, 14-year-old Wilhelmina "Will" Vandom has recently moved to the city of Heatherfield. Following the strange occurrences starting from her arrival all the way up to her new school's Halloween party, Will soon learns that she has been chosen as the leader of the new Guardians of Kandrakar and is given a mystical crystal, the Heart of Kandrakar. As for her fellow Guardians, they happen to be her schoolmates at Sheffield Institute, each possessing a natural affinity with the elements of water, fire, earth, and wind. These are Irma Lair, Taranee Cook, Cornelia Hale, and Hay Lin, respectively. Together, these five girls form the group "W.I.T.C.H."—will they be able to protect the Earth from Prince Phobos' schemes? W.I.T.C.H. is based off of the 2001 Italian Disney comic of the same name, which also received a 52-episode TV show from December 18, 2004 to December 23, 2006. The manga adaptation covers the first three issues of the original comic, which was never published in Japan. The manga series was collected into two tankoubon volumes from December 17, 2003 to March 17, 2004. The manga series was published in Italian by The Walt Disney Company Italia from June 10, 2008 to July 2008.

In the beginning of the comic series, Will is 14 years old, has red hair in a bobcut and brown eyes. She has a crush on Matthew Olsen, who later becomes her boyfriend. Will has a pet dormouse, who has various names and appearances depending on the country. Will lives in a large apartment with her mother, Susan Vandom, and her dormouse. Later on, her stepfather moves in and she soon shared her home with an infant brother. Will loves caring for animals, and also enjoys swimming. She is very good at swimming, and is even on Sheffield Institute's competitive team. Because of her love of animals, Will is good at science, specifically biology. Will's full name shifts between Wilhelmina and Wilma. Her birthday is given as January 19 in the comics but is changed to the fall (possibly somewhere in November) in the animated series. In the comics, her star sign in Capricorn. Will loves frogs and collects almost anything with frogs on them, save for the amphibians themselves. Her frog collection ranges from stuff-toy frogs, clothes, furniture, accessories, blankets, alarm clock, and key chains. Her love for frog collections drew so much to the point that her room is filled with them on every corner. Will is known to have a fiery and unstable temper but has the personality of a great leader. She has grown more cheerful throughout the series as she learns how to be good friends with the others. She is a bit of a tomboy, but is also sensitive towards other people's feelings and also her own. Will has issues with trusting people because she is afraid of being let down. At first she didn't trust the other WITCH girls either, as her other friends talked negatively about her behind her back, but she came to understand that they were really her friends. As a regular girl, she is good-looking, but is plagued by insecurity because she doesn't feel pretty enough. When transformed, she looks more like she'd like to look as an ordinary girl. At first glance Corny looks and and acts like the typical popular girl. And she does have that reputation, but that isn't the real her deep down. She's 14 at the start of the series. Cornelia comes off to all the other girls, as a girl who has everything she wants, but buried deep within her is anything, but that. Though rich she is actually a timid girl when it comes to guys, unexperienced with love and has only dreamed of it. Cornelia still is though a shopoholic, and fashion diva constantly competing with her rivals the school twins. Not to mention a control freak, and be extremely cold which really heats up to fits with Irma who she calls Irmy. Other then that her only other menace or so she calls is her little 7 year old sister Lilian who annoys her until bedtime. She is a competitive ice-skater and has won numerous medals for her achievements on the ice. Her best friend and seemingly only friend before she met and joined the team is Elyon Brown (also called Elyon Portrait in some countries) and she owns a cat named Napoleon which she received from Will. She is the guardian of Earth, and can manipulate earth, stone, metal, and wood and speak with the Earth, make plants and flowers grow big and tall, can move objects with her mind (psychokinesis), and can sometimes experience prophetic visions from the earth. Cornelia is very Down-To-Earth, which suits an Earth guardian, and she is a natural born leader, except in the group. She understands plants the way Will understands animals. Her theme color is green and her symbol is a green circle with a dot in the center which symbolizes earth. Her name is the female version of the Latin name 'Cornelis', which means 'the horned one'. Irma is known as the Class clown, and blames this as being Pisces thus her birthday being March 13. Irma is 13 at the start of the series. Irma is a bit sassy and unpredictable but only to those outside, she is much more behind to what everyone thinks. Despite playing cool and slick in front of everyone else. At home she endures lots of family problems. Whether it&#039;s with her father who&#039;s an officer, her step-mother Anna who she constantly bickers, or her 7-year-old half-brother Chris. She only confides in Leafy, her pet turtle, and indulges in long baths without getting wrinkles while listening to her rock legend, Karmilla. She is a lover of music, and loves her job being the school announcer aka school DJ. Though not the mushiest girl around she makes sure she pushes away the school nerd Martin and still has plenty of crushes. Her theme color is turquoise (blue) and her symbol is a blue wave crest. She is the water guardian and although could handle storms of water, she would much rather use it on pranks on the school&#039;s bullies. She has also been known to exhibit light mind control. Hay Lin was born on June 4, thus bearing the sign of the Gemini, and was raised in the town of Heatherfield. She is feisty, confident, pretty and full of energy, and very optimistic and determined. Hay Lin is something of a free spirit: she's absent-minded, but at the same time extremely creative, talented and insightful when it comes to people aound her. She loves to draw, paint, and sketch. It is no surprise that her favorite subject in school is art. She has a sense of humor rivaling that of Irma's. She can be considered a slight comic-alien geek at heart because of her love to collect comics and alien collectables. She enjoys just about anything related to science fiction, air, or art. Her quirky style spills into dialect as well, with expressions like "cosmic" and "spacious" in place of more mainstream options like "cool". In the Spanish version of the comic, she often exclaimed: "Yap!" Hay Lin is not superb at Physical Education, as shown when she herself once says she shall need to get into shape after running. Her family owns a Chinese restaurant called the Silver Dragon where she often works at to help her family out. She has a habit of writing people's names, dates, numbers and anything else that might come in handy on the back of her hand or arm so she does not forget anything important during one of her creative brainstorms. Hay Lin had her first kiss with Eric. “Lin” is both Hay Lin’s surname and the last past of her first name. Birthday: October 31 Zodiac: Scorpio Elyon is a heart-warming teenager with straw colored hair in two braids. She is friendly and smart, but sometimes a bit wishy-washy. She is the Queen of Meridian, and the Light of Meridian. Elyon was born in Meridian, lone daughter to the Queen and King and heir to the throne; however, after the disappearance of her parents, a Meridianite named Galgheita took her to Earth to evade the wrath of the cruel and heartless Phobos, her evil brother, and to protect her from him, who had plans to steal her superior magical powers. On Earth, Elyon was raised there as a normal girl by the Portraits (Browns in American version), Meridianites whom Elyon believed to be her parents. She knew nothing of Meridian or her true identity. Elyon became best friends with Cornelia Hale and good friends with the other W.I.T.C.H. members. When she met Cedric she developed a crush on him. Elyon begins going to his book store frequently and starts to help him out with the shop. Cedric eventually tells her about her identity and turns her against the Guardians convincing her to go to Meridian, where he teaches her to wield and use her powers. After staying by Phobos and Cedric's side for a while, Elyon realizes that Phobos and Cedric are after her powers and helps W.I.T.C.H. defeat them. Elyon then stays in Meridian and assumes her rightful place as the Light of Meridian. Elyon is the Light of Meridian, an exclusive savior position reserved for females of the Royal Family. The Light of Meridian is a very powerful magical force and is the rightful ruler of Meridian. According to Phobos and the Oracle, she is even stronger than Phobos himself. Elyon's full power seems to exceed or at least rival the combined strength of all five Guardians. No voice actors have been added to this character. Taranee is 13 at the start of the series. Her name originates from the Hebrew word 'Tara' which means 'palm tree'. She may be shy and laid-back, but Taranee can be very determined when she sets her mind to a goal. Out of all her friends, she is usually the one that has to remind every one about an important task at hand. She was a new student to Heatherfield along with Will and the two became best friends due to that. Though a bookworm at first glance to everyone, she excels in basketball, photography, listening to classical music, and even math. Her biggest influence is her older brother Peter. She is very close and united to her family, which later brings about a big problem in love, which is her weak-point. Her feelings which go from shy and sensitive, to hot-headed when her feelings are really torn. Irma jokes that this is due to her being a Aries.
