Age: 15 Height: 147 cm The protagonist of Watamote. She's bad at talking with people, nonetheless she wants to have friends and even a boyfriend. Unfortunately, her appearance, shyness, social anxiety, and lack of experience in communicating with everyone but her own family doesn't really help Tomoko make things better. She finds entering high school as an opportunity to change her life and make a lot of friends, so she keeps trying to do everything to gain attention of her new classmates. To no avail because she doesn't follow through with her plans and would often end up procrastinating.

Birthday: March 3 Yuu is Kuroki Tomoko's old friend from middle school. Back then she had rather average looks and average grades. After she entered high school she saw that everyone was being flashy and she felt out of place. Soon after, she started wearing contacts, bleached her hair and now looks all flashy and beautiful as well.

Kotomi is Yuu's friend from middle school. She enjoys anime and is a "glasses girl," but despite sharing some of Tomoko's interests the two never get along. We later find out that she ended up attending the same high school as Tomoko. Tomoko seems to have forgotten everything about the other girl, which just makes Kotomi resent her even more.
