Synopsis

Under the guidance of ruthless warrior King Andragoras III, the kingdom of Pars prospers, while the naive and gentle prince Arslan trains to continue his father's legacy. Arslan believes Pars to be a joyous and righteous land, until a captured slave his age from the hostile nation Lusitania escapes and takes him hostage, revealing to Arslan the horrors and cruelty slaves are subject to. Arslan is rescued, but the encounter leaves an impression on him. Three years pass, and Arslan's first battle against the Lusitanian army has come. Through the Lusitanian use of spies and traps, the battle ends in disaster, and the majority of Parsian troops are slain. With the aid of his loyal friend and bodyguard Daryun, the stricken prince barely manages to escape with his life. With his father nowhere to be found and his homeland now occupied by the enemy, Arslan loses everything in one fell swoop. Seeking shelter, Daryun takes the prince to his friend Narsus, an eccentric but brilliant strategist. With the help of Narsus and various other people he meets along the way, Arslan begins his campaign to reclaim his kingdom. The path is riddled with many challenges, from the greedy nobility to the mysterious warrior known as Silver Mask. Arslan Senki has been published in English as The Heroic Legend of Arslan by Kodansha Comics USA since August 19, 2014. The publisher has also simulpub the series digitally. It has also been published in Spanish since November 2015; and in Italian by Panini Comics since November 1, 2015.

Age: 11, 14 (post time-skip) Birthday: May 23 Arslan is the prince of Pars, but is frequently misinterpreted by those around him as being a weakling, because of his effete appearance, naivete, compassion, and optimism. While these are true to a point, Arslan is also philosophical, intelligent, and charismatic, able to rally even the most apathetic of people to his cause. Formerly a high-ranking military officer, Daryun is demoted from his position in the opening of the anime. His new mission is to protect and serve Arslan. Daryun and Arslan become close friends. In the style of samurai, Daryun is loyal to a fault, and at point tells Arslan that whatever his true origins may be, Daryun regards him as his prince. In addition to being a brilliant tactician, Narsus is also an incredible swordsman, an intelligent philosopher, and a not-so-skilled painter. He is Arslan's advisor, and Daryun's close friend. Gieve is the only player who does not make a strong allegiance to any side in the various battles that take place. While he self-identifies as a musician, it would be more apt to say that Gieve is a rogue-of-all-trades. He is the most versatile fighter in the series, capable of using a sword, a bow, or a lance, and also claims that he can play any instrument in the world. In the OVA, Gieve is also known for breaking the fourth wall: when he is alone, he will address the audience and narrate his thoughts on what is going on in the story (though it could be said that he is merely talking because he loves the sound of his own voice). She maintains her mystique throughout the course of the story, so that little is known of her personally. According to her own account, she was the most beautiful, intelligent and capable member of her order; when a prediction was made that a servant of Misra must protect Prince Arslan, the other clerics selected her to go, out of jealousy. In the beginning, all that is known about Silver Mask is his obsessive desire to torture and kill both Andragoras and Arslan. He is serving as the leader of the Lusitanian forces but is in fact a Parsian himself and soon commands a regiment of collaborators. He is so named because of the ornate silver helm he wears; it has large silver bull-horns attached to it, and completely obscures his face. (Source: Wikipedia)

Cunning in his own way and good with a bow and arrow among other things, he occasionally acts as spy to gather useful information through various disguises.
