Synopsis

After being aggressively rejected, Momo Ayase finds herself sulking when she stumbles across a boy being bullied. Saved by her rash kindness, the occult-obsessed boy attempts to speak to her about supernatural interests he believes they share. Rejecting his claims, Ayase proclaimed that she instead is a believer in ghosts, starting an argument between the two over which is real. In a bet to determine who is correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural—Ayase visiting the former and the boy visiting the latter. When the two reach their respective places, it turns out that neither was wrong and that both the occult and ghosts do exist. This marks the beginning of Ayase and the boy's adventure, as they attempt to fix the surreal, supernatural, and occult elements around them to return to a normal life. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Publication notes

Dandadan ranked fourth in the 2022 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. The manga was nominated for the 15th Manga Taisho Award in 2022 and ranked seventh in the final ranking. The series has been simulpub digitally in English through MANGA Plus. The volumes have been published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since October 11, 2022. It has also been released in Italian by J-POP since September 21, 2022.

Ayase Momo is a girl that has psychic powers and believes in ghosts. Her psychic powers were activated when she was kidnapped by aliens that are trying to repopulate through her. She makes a bet with Takakura (who believes in UFOs) to see whether ghosts or UFOs are real. Ayase lives with her grandma who is a psychic in a shrine. Ayase didn't believe her grandma had an ability initially, but she later apologized to her when she found out that her powers were real. Ayase gave the nickname "Okarun" to Takakura because she can't accept the fact that he shares the exact same name as her favorite actor "Takakura Ken."

Takakura Ken is a boy who got cursed by the "Turbo Grandma" ghost. The only way to relieve the curse is by luring the ghost out of her comfort area through some kind of a race. Takakura believes in UFOs and made a bet with Ayase (who believes in ghosts but not UFOs) to see whether UFOs or ghosts are the ones that are real. Takakura was nicknamed "Okarun" by Ayase because the name "Takakura Ken" is the same name as her favorite actor.
