Synopsis

Individuals with Momotarou and Oni blood coursing through their veins maintain a longstanding rivalry. The Oni are careless, rash, and disorderly, while the Momotarou protect the human world from the uncontrollable Oni. Shiki Ichinose is a reckless and irresponsible teenager, aware of his defiance and even proud of his expulsion from school. Despite Shiki's rebellious attitude, his foster father, Tsuyoshi, cares about him deeply. Tsuyoshi's selfless love is soon shown in an explosive incident when a Momotarou barges in looking for Shiki. As a Momotarou himself, Tsuyoshi has been hiding Shiki for years and keeping his Oni origins a secret even from him. As he gives up his life to save Shiki and confesses everything in his dying breath, Shiki's Oni blood awakens for the first time, transforming him into an unruly monster overflowing with rage and a thirst for revenge. Shiki's momentary outburst attracts the attention of Naito Mudano, an Oni teacher at the Rasetsu Academy—an institution for young Oni in need of understanding and perfecting their powers. Tougen Anki was nominated for the Best Printed Manga category at the seventh Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards in 2021. The series has been published in English as Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood by Yen Press September 17, 2024. It has been published in French by Kana since February 4, 2022, in Italian by Panini Comics since September 29, 2022.

Mudano is an Oni and a teacher in the Rakshasa Academy. He is also part of the Oni Corporation. He is a calm man, who does not seem to like to waste time. Mudano cares secretly about his students to encourage them to do more than they think they can do. He has a lot of combat experience and skill, and is not afraid to step into a fight for his people and beliefs. His ability is using oni blood manipulation. Fun fact!: He also wields a special umbrella as a weapon and often uses roller skates instead of regular shoes to move around.

Shiki Ichinose is an Oni and a Child of the Kishin, as well as a student at Rasetsu Academy. Shiki is a rebellious teenager of average height and build with tousled, pointed, blue-black hair. He has blue eyes, beneath his left eye towards his ear there are small twin moles. He sports the standard Rasetsu uniform and does not wear accessories, even in casual wear. Shiki appears to be average height. Whenever his horns are visible, they extend upwards. Most similar to bovine horns, seen on antelopes, cows, goats and sheep. Shiki has a rough, confrontational attitude and can sometimes be vulgar in the way he speaks to others. He has a huge interest in weaponry, especially firearms. Although he's confident and likes to appear tough, Shiki is aware of his own weaknesses and has learned to accept criticism as an important part of his growth. Originally focused on getting revenge for his father's death, Shiki's empathy and interest in developing relationships with others has given him a new direction.

Jin Kougasaki is an Oni and student of Rasetsu Academy. Jin is a boy with light-colored hair and slanted eyes. He wears the standard Rasetsu Academy uniform along with a face mask that assists in concealing the many scars that line the majority of his body, including the lower half of his jaw. These scars were afflicted upon Jin during his childhood by his father, Momoido Hayate and have since then been stitched. Jin is a calm and rational person who is quick to analyze the situation. However, he is also easily angered by hindrances in his path and can be incredibly uncooperative as shown during the first assignment. Despite his bad temper and icy demeanor, Jin is capable of kindness and gratitude. Also, due to the pain of losing his mother and older sister, Jin is quite sentimental when it comes to such things.
