Synopsis
In the epic prequel to .hack, the avatar Albireo is a solo adventurer in The World, the most advanced online fantasy game ever created. When he comes across Lycoris, a strange little girl in a dungeon, Albireo wonders if she's simply nothing more than a bug in the system. As the two journey further into The World, Albireo watches Lycoris turn all of the rules of The World upside down. He attempts to delete her, but she escapes by segmenting her data into multiple sections, which are released throughout the system. Not one to give up Albireo manages to locate a fragment of her data after receiving a mysterious e-mail pinpointing her location. However the fragment he finds is only a small portion of Lycoris, and he is forced to go through a series of quests in order to restore her completely. Lycoris is the Greek word for "Twilight". Though really played by an experienced player, she pretends to be a newbie. Her online personality is fairly hyper, and she has the tendency to give her friends odd nicknames. When she's around people who know her true identity she drops the newbie act, and acts like the mature woman she actually is. Hokuto was created so that Haruka could enjoy The World without worrying about running into her boss, who would recognize her original character, W.B. Yeats.
