Synopsis

.hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu was published in English as .hack//Legend of the Twilight by Tokyopop from September 9, 2003 to November 9, 2004, and again as a complete omnibus in December 2009. It was also published in Polish by Japonica Polonica Fantastica in 2005, and in Brazilian Portuguese by Editora JBC from August 2006 to February 2007.

Shugo Kunisaki is a player who wins a special chibi version of Kite's avatar in a contest developed by Aura. He originally believes himself to have outgrown video games, but after winning the character along with his sister, Rena, who won a version of BlackRose's avatar, the two join the game. He lacks planning skills and is incapable of turning down the requests of others. He is given a version of Kite's Twilight Bracelet by Aura that does not harm humans. Aura's plan is to motivate Shugo by allowing him to be a hero, after meeting and talking to him using another player's character in the past.

Shugo's twin sister. She introduces Shugo to The World (the MMORPG where this all takes place). She won a pair of rare avatars from a contest (which Aura rigged so Rena would win), which take the form of former heroes from the games. She uses a chibi version of the Black Rose avatar, while giving the other to Shugo. Her class type is Heavy Blade, which is sensible seeing as how headstrong she is. She wishes more than anything for Shugo to be able to become a hero, hence her constant demands that he rescue her. She also wishes for their broken family to be re-united. She also narrates the next episode previews by giving out "special event information". In A.I. Buster 2, it is revealed that Rena used to play a Blademaster named Bridgit before Black Rose. Her character name is Rena not Blackrose, although black rose is her Login Name.

A blonde haired Vagrant AI who is the focus of the story, Shugo and his friends protect her from Kamui and the debuggers while searching for the entrance to Netslum so she can be reunited with her mother. She originally mistakes Shugo for her mother due to the Twilight Bracelet giving him the same "scent" as Aura,and is very possesive of him calling him brother.When it comes to the rest of Shugo's friends she only likes Mirei and won't think twice about using her powers on the others if they contradict or belittle her. Like all Vagrant AIs she can bend the rules of the System with ease and she bears a resemblance to Lycoris which explains Kamui's hate and strong desire to delete her.
