Synopsis

His last memory?—The electric chair, the cowl, the hand of the executive which lowers a control lever… When he reopens eyes, Ash has only vague notions of the fact that was its life, and more still, circumstances of its death. The androgyne Angel announces him that he was a victim of a miscarriage of justice and that he means, at the moment, avoiding the same fate to the other innocents.

A man sent to the chair for a crime he didn't commit, a man named Johnny is reborn as Ash, a man with the ability to turn to ash and form solid matter from ash. Guided by Angel, an angel bound to him by "The Committee", Ash is given a single mission, to prove other wrongly accused criminals innocent. As a rebellious soul, Ash ignores the rules set for those given the privileges to return and uses his own methods to save the innocent people. During his quest to find evidence, Frame Burns, the same man who accused Johnny, learns of his return and sends Whirl, an insane sociopath who likes to kill with a graceful and playful style, to hunt down Ash. During their last fight, Ash sacrifices himself to drag Whirl down to hell. The truth about Johnny's case is revealed and Frame Burns is arrested. Angel is then set free and has her wings returned, vowing to look Johnny's sister and Rain, Johnny's appointed lawyer from his case who became his love interest and promised him she'd look after his sister after he died.
