Synopsis

Living in a superhuman society, it is hard to feel special. Even more so when the spotlight only shines on professional heroes, those legally authorized to use their special powers known as Quirks in public for the greater good. Kouichi Haimawari grew up aspiring to be a hero, but with a mediocre Quirk like "sliding" that ties him to the ground, he soon came to the conclusion that he could only ever admire them from below. Despite this, Kouichi finds contentment in using his Quirk to carry out day-to-day good deeds, such as returning lost items and helping the elderly cross the street. However, Kouichi's tame life takes a swing into the turbulent when he is rescued from a back alley brawl by Vigilante, or illegal hero, Knuckleduster. Seeing hero potential in Kouichi, Knuckleduster enlists his help in tracking down the source of a dangerous drug known as Trigger that boosts the user's Quirk at the expense of their rationality. Set in a time before the events of the original story, Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals follows Kouichi as he chooses to don the reputation of a villain and become a Vigilante, operating in the shadow of the law to prevent crimes from taking to the surface. Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals was published digitally as an English simulpub as My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by VIZ Media. VIZ Media released the series in print from July 3, 2018, to October 10, 2023. It was also released in Spanish by Planeta Cómic from October 15, 2019, to April 26, 2023.

Later on in life, he becomes a vigilante with Pop☆Step (Kazuho Haneyama) and Knuckleduster (Iwao Oguro).

Age: 45 Height: 185 cm (6'1") Affiliation: Naruhata Vigilantes Quirk: Quirkless Knuckleduster is a street smart vigilante who patrols the rooftops of the city district of Naruhata, along with the help of fellow vigilantes Pop Step and The Crawler. Their main goal, besides keeping the citizens of Naruhata safe, is stopping the threat of an illegal quirk-boosting drug called Trigger. Many of the villains he encounters are Trigger users. Despite having no quirk, he consistently demonstrates the ability to defeat these dangerous and unstable villains. As far as physical strength and durability go, Knuckleduster is certainly impressive for someone with no physical enhancement quirk. His punching power and ability to tank physical punishment are so exceptional to the point that he has temporarily been mistaken to have a physical enhancement quirk by the pro hero, Shōta Aizawa. On top of his above-average physical stats, Knuckleduster is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat and his street smarts are a valuable asset in a pinch. When fighting a villainous quirk-user, Knuckleduster can often determine a weakness of his opponent through observing their quirk in action during combat. He then exploits that weakness with quick thinking skills. The standard gear Knuckleduster takes to the streets with consists of a grappling hook and a pair of knuckledusters (brass knuckles).
