Synopsis

Whenever Suiren Shibazeki walks by, heads turn due to her captivatingly cute looks. In elementary school, boys would pay too much attention to her, to the point where she avoided them altogether. In middle school, she attended an all-girls school in the hopes of escaping all the unwanted attention, but she was still smothered by her classmates' coddling. As a result, Suiren now rarely speaks and maintains an expressionless face. Advancing to high school, Suiren returns to a co-ed school and is once again the center of attention. The boys refer to her as "Takane no Hana," flower on a high peak, unreachable and idolized from afar. However, one boy outside her sea of admirers catches her eye—Kouha Kawasumi, a talented karate student who is just as quiet as her. While he may not return her immediate affection, Kouha saves her from a group of boys, jump-starting the heartwarming romance that blossoms between the two soft-spoken youths. Hibi Chouchou was nominated for the 38th Kodansha Manga Award in the Shoujo manga category in 2014. The series was published in English as Like a Butterfly by VIZ Media under the Shojo Beat imprint from July 4, 2023, to May 6, 2025. It has also been released in Spanish by Planeta Cómic since May 29, 2024. The manga received two drama CD adaptations released with the Comic Natalie magazine on November 20, 2014, and December 5, 2014.

Suiren is a extremely cute and very quiet girl. Because she's so cute, she gets a lot of attention from both boys and girls. In elementary school, Suiren was bullied by the boys who liked her, so she doesn't know how to get along with boys anymore. She went to an all-girls middle school, but the girls were drooling over her as well, and got overly excited whenever she talked or smiled. Kawasumi is a 15-year-old student who attends Shuudai High. He is childhood friends with Ryosuke, and he is most attracted to the popular Suiren. Kawasumi is particularly talented in karate as he can easily defeat three attackers at the same time, and he was also the champion of a particular tournament (chapter 18). Kawasumi was first seen as the only man who did not look Suiren's way. His first real encounter with her was when he saved her and her things from a senpai. Since then, the attraction between the two grew; Kawasumi would only talk to Suiren and Suiren, in return, would try her best to converse only towards him. By eating with each other on the rooftop, secretly going to the cultural festival together, and walking home with each other, their relationship developed.
